battery types.
on: June 18, 2009, 01:32:55 AM
I'm never going to be called a torch expert but I seem to remember that once upon a time all anyone talked about was the CR123A batteries.  That no longer seems to be the case and there seems to be a far greater range of lights that use more classic battery types.  For those who carry more than one light I've set this up so as you can vote for your two favourites.

So I've gone for the AAA as it powers my top torch the Fenix L0D and the 'C' as it goes in my car carry torch; the C cell Tesco's.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

Generally AA and AAA for me.

I only have the one CR123 light now, but I would consider getting another.

Well I've got a AAA in my LD01, so that's a simple choice as I use it every day and carry it everywhere with me.

Tough choosing the other one.  I use single Cr123 often, but if forced to choose a single torch it would be a multi Cr123 variety, probably my Olight M20 (or my Fenix TA21 when it arrives :D)

18650's are great though, if you treat them well.

Ran into a problem....

An Error Has Occurred!
You selected too many options. For this poll, you may only select 2 options.

Since I can't vote for what lights I have, it's everything but C cell lights (I currently have 57 lights).

LOL, it's supposed to be your favourite ones not just every one you have.  :D  Or am I asking the flashlight equivalent of which are your favourite children?  ;)

Oh, OK.

The battery type for my favorite lights is not listed...it's a battery you can't walk into a store and buy :)

EDIT: That would be "Other" :D

I assume you are talking about EDC scenario, so it's single AAA and single 123a, don't have enough pocket space for anything bigger in the summer.

I used to be a big CR123 battery fan but not anymore. I like carrying AA or AAA lights because if the power goes out or something catastrophic happens you can salvage batteries from remote controls and other things.

Well I EDC single cell lights AA or AAA. I do however like carrying 2 cell lights in the winter or in  my bag.

AAA or CR123a single cell lights for EDC. 18650 for bag carry, but not that often.

Same with Prime. Brighter, longer runtime and with peace of mind that it won't leak!

AA and AAA, since I have only two lights  :D The LOD and LD10 (thanks, Mike). Those AA and AAA are easy to find and we always have some of those laying around at the office.

Mostly AA or 2AA for me but I carry button LED type things too.

I find AAs work out fairly cheap and easy to find - that's what put me off getting a CR123 light.

CR123's are actually very reasonable online and as they last for ages they are actually very cost effective IMO.  Plus, you generally get a brighter output for the smaller size.

My next light will probably be CR123.

multi AAA for my Peztl headlamp, 2AA for my maglite.  My only complaints about the CR123 are:
1.  Not as easy to find in a pinch
2.  If they're not same brand of same voltage (old vs new), there's a real chance it might "blowed up real good."
