Fenix LD01 SS Dissapointment
on: June 18, 2009, 02:06:50 AM
Recieved my LD01 SS yesterday. I have to say i was dissapointed.

Firstly it had some fingerprints on the finish. I mean they were almost imbedded in the finish. Almost like someone had superglue on their fingers and then held the torch. I have hit them with metal polish and fine steel wool and they are still there faintly. I expect with more polishing they will go completely

Secondly there was some red grease looking stuff on the + contact under the head, so when i put the battery in it didnt even work. I have cleaned it with a cotton bud and now it is functioning, but i really think this is pretty crappy quality control on a 60 buck torch. Kind of ruined the experience for me.

I wasn't that impressed with the SS LD01 either.  Not the best 'special edition' offering I have seen, but it can look nice when polished up.

The standard version is much better IMO.

Sorry to her about the finish on yours being so poor mate  :(

Damn I should have told you some of my dealers :(

I have done many transitions with these guys -

www.ledtorches.com.au - Marco is a great guy! Free Express and great customer service

www.torchworld.com.au - A lot of variety compared to to the previous. Superb customer service. Michael is a great guy to deal with always striving for great customer service!

Hope you buy from these next time you choose to get a flashlight :)

That's a bit sucky, especially as that was a light I was interested in.

Still, could just be one of only a few.

Dont get me wrong. Now it is working it looks to be a top little torch. The three settings are excellent and the stainless looks great now the blemishes are gone. It has a quality heft to it with the stainless as well. I just feel it shouldnt have been that way. Its not a 5 buck light.

It's not horrible per se - its just not quite what I expected from a special edition.  It does have a very satisfying heft to it.  Its just it looked so much better in the pics - very shiny etc.  Its not shiny or polished in real life, but a little work would easily make it mirror-like I should imagine.

As far as function is concerned its a great little torch, and combined with the heft it is nice.  I guess I'm just a fussy git :D

I'll get some pics of mine up later today :)

Some of those pics I promised.  Sorry about the lighting - I haven't got time to set up decent lighting tonight so my ceiling lights will have to do :)

I hope you can see what I mean about this torch - its not bad, just not 'special edition' quality.  Though the more I played with it whilst taking these photos the more I liked it.  I'll polish it next weekend to a mirror finish.

I have to say that I rather like the look of that finish but each to their own.  It'll look great with a mirror finish as well.  :tu:

...

I see your point.  Its not what you'd expect from having seen the glossy product shots :(  Still the nature of the material does mean it should all work out in the end.  Please be posting pretty super polished shots if you get chance   :tu:
