Into the Wild based on Christopher Johnson McCandless

Christopher Johnson McCandless (February 12, 1968 – mid-August, 1992) was an American wanderer who adopted the name Alexander Supertramp and hiked into the Alaskan wilderness with little food and equipment, hoping to live a period of solitude. Almost four months later, he died of starvation near Denali National Park and Preserve.

I know many criticize him going to the Alaskan wilderness unprepared, but you have to admire his spirit and bravery to pursue his freedom.

His last journal he wrote   "I HAVE HAD A HAPPY LIFE AND THANK THE LORD. GOODBYE AND MAY GOD BLESS ALL!"

Thats funny, because I just watched the movie a few days ago, and I am waiting for the book at my library.

I ended up hating the movie. The ending made me frustrated and disappointed. >:(

No I have never admired him. I always considered him as an idiot...and no I never watched the movie nor have I read the book, both of which have romanticized him. He committed suicide by doing rather stupid things.

I've seen the film and might be interested in reading the book.  I have to say that I have nothing against his desires but he seemed foolhardy in the extreme.  His death seems to have been somewhat inevitable.  :-\

I remember that in the film he at least had a knife, something like a Buck 110 IIRC.  My issue was that he seemed to have no contingency plan or escape route.

In the film, I recall him removing the license plate from his car with what looked like a folding hunter style knife. May have been a Buck 110, not sure. He also inherited a fixed blade from the old leather worker.

I read an article a while back that did say the real Christopher McCandless had a SAK on him. Didn't specify what type, though.
