Newbie Sayin' Hi
on: June 28, 2009, 07:45:08 PM
Hey there!
I just registered and wanted to say hi.  Don't know if any of you ever do this, but occasionally I realize exactly how useful or special some of my tools, knives, etc are and I end up obsessing about it all over again.  That's what happened a few days ago with my Leatherman Wave.  I'm not a collector, per se, because I like to use my tools not just look at them.  I finally found my perfect knife company and now I found the perfect tool for me.
Anyway, I'm from WV, US.  I'm fairly outdoorsy and learning more and more that I can be mechanical as well.  Okay, that's it for now.  Just wanted to say hi.  I've got lots of questions and I love reading all your stories and recommendations and discussion.  Thanks.
Gray

Hi there Gray. Welcome to the forum! Mind telling us your perfect knife company? :pok: :D

Sure!  And thanks for the welcome.  Over the last year, I have discovered that Spyderco is the company that makes the knives for me.  I'm particularly fond of the H1 steel Saver Salt and Salt 1.  I use either one of those almost as much as I use my Wave.  I love 'em.  I've looked at all kinds of knives and those are it for me.  I know there are lost more out there, but since I don't make a lot of money, it has to really count when I get my tools and knives.  Maybe one day I'll be financially able to buy more to try out or collect, but right now Spyderco and Leatherman are my faves.

Welcome mate. :tu:  Don't worry we're not all collectors by any stretch of the imagination.  A large percentage of us are users, that just happen to have a few tools to pick from.

welcome!

You can't go wrong with either the companies you have tools from they are great.  I have a Pacific Salt and just love it.  I carry it the most of all my knives and tools.  I also have the Spyderco sharpmaker and it works wonders on keeping both plain and serrated edges sharp.  What do you use ?

I use the sharpmaker as well for most things.  When I first got my Salt 1 PE it has some very minor knicks in the blade.  I tried using the sharpmaker to get them out, but it was taking too long, so I used a Smith's rod-guided system to get rid of them then used the sharpmaker to restore the microbevel.  It is beautiful now (in my opinion) :) I use the Sharpmaker exclusively for my Saver Salt SE, it works great!  I really am addicted to that steel now.  I did have my eye on all sorts of other knives by Spyderco that I wanted to try, but with these two plus my little, trusty Dragonfly, I really don't have a need for anything else.  I've decided that instead of collecting all the spyderco's I can, that I want to collect all of the salt series...eventually.  My mom even wants my Saver Salt...she fell in love with it when I helped her do some landscaping stuff and pulled it out to cut through some thicker branches and stuff and helped cut up some roots in the mud so we could get a stump out.  She just looked at me like I was nuts and when i told her that I just had to clean it with water then let it dry and it wouldn't rust she almost swooned!  She liked it.
Thanks for the welcome.
