For all the talk about rusty Leathermans even one in that state will clean up fine with a very little work.  The round plate over the serrated blade looks like it might have a bit of pitting, and some of the other areas might have a bit of a dark stain even after cleaning, but nothing that will affect the operation of the tool.   I actually enjoy cleaning up used tools (SAKs in my case) as you get to feel you've had a bit of input into it.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

The torx screw above the serrated blade looks like some kind of welding accident   Whatever it is that Wave has had a sad existance  :(  Should clean up fine though .

LOL.  Even if you left it as is, it would STILL work fine.  A little rust never hurt anything.  How many of us remember handing our fathers that wrench out of the tool box he asked for, only to find an old brown, pitted, terribly used tool that looked pitiful and pathetic, but that still got the job done just fine?  I think we make too much of the whole rust issue.  Besides, that is just surface rust.  Even the spots that might be pitted, it'll be fine.  I love old tools that look that way.  Sure, they might have been abandoned, but usually it means they have seen WORK, which is, after all, what they were built to do.
Give that old soldier something to do, and he'll take care of business just fine.

Good find kiwiblade :tu: I found an old Wave in similar shape not hardly as much rust but it cleaned up fine with pretty much just a small wire brush and some elbow grease ;) Good luck and hope it serves you well

Agree with those statements completely. Despite the good natured joshing over Leatherman's rust resistance, I have never found an example of where the rust did any REAL harm to the tool. And I've got just a little experience with salsmurfer and humidity getting into the wrong places. Also, I always seem to end up carrying a LM and a Vic selection. Best of both worlds, really. :D :)

Just out of interest, how available are MTs and SAKs in NZ?  I'll be there in a few weeks time :)
