It would be instantly noticeable to anyone with an interest in SAKs; it would be almost like a status symbol.

Its nice looking so people who don't know what it is will probably like it and pass positive comment :)

buy it, BUY IT :D :D

I edc'd one of my oldie soldiers a few times, but having a newer Wenger SI which was more usable I didn't very often and then got rid of it because it didn't see any use.

If I had loads of cash I'd get one and would happily carry it, but being skint and a tight-wad I would get a standard Alox soldier instead.
I'm back!!

I'd definitely get and carry one if funds allowed - I just don't really get the whole shelf queen thing

No, I would not EDC it....In fact, I wouldn't spend that much.

I would take the money and use it next Saturday at the gunshow I am going to...I need more ammo and possibly a Walther P-22 .22 pistol or another M1 Garand.

I would absolutely EDC one, provided it had a wooden handle and I had a modern multi to back it up.

Shoot, I can get a Glock 17 for cheaper than that, NIB.

The ONLY knife I would spend money like that on would be a Randall Model 14 or Model 1 or something like that.

From what I see with the box, paperwork, limited quanity, PRICE.
It just screams "Shelf Queen till you sell it to pay for something you need."

I own two OLD Soldiers (one is a beater, the other is very good condition)  I don't carry either for the simple fact
I find the Vic Soldier and Wenger SI better with the easy feeling of "If I lose this or destroy it then I don't have to hide from the wife."

I don't think there was ever an expectation that anyone would carry it. It is clearly for collectors and would make an excellent investment due to there being only 1891 pieces ever to be made each year. They are sold at list of $495. because Victorinox requires dealers to do so. You might find them cheaper BUT, unless they have them in stock (which no one does yet), you might find that your order is cancelled if Vic catches them and refuses to ship.

Ouch. That is a bit pricey.

Are there 1891 people willing to pay 500 for that knife per year?

hmmm.... hmmm....
I am suppose to get that knife in the next two weeks  or so :P
It should be on it way right now (I told it arrived and will be shipped this week) but it probably be stopped in customs.
I am sure not going to use it.

Tim, what do you mean "there being only 1891 pieces ever to be made each year" ?
I was told there going to be 4x1891 and the difference between the 4 series will be the language of the documents (or something minor like that) but the knife will be the same. Did I understood it wrong ?

To my knowledge, none have been delivered to dealers yet (at least I have not been noticed that they are in yet) but I could be wrong. I also never heard anything about multiple languages or numbers. Again, I would only know about U.S. availability so I guess there could be others.

Here is a link to the Victorinox-homepage:

http://victorinoxcms.victorinox.ch/index.cfm?site=victorinox.ch&page=107&lang=D&action=show&for_thema=Taschenmesser&for_page=2&for_msg=20090505082034

Someone had asked about the difference between the 4 series and Victorinox says that there will be 4 x 1884 knives. And the only difference between the 4 series is the serial number (I through IV).
