I'm pretty certain that the Alox knives use nickle silver pins. I reused the pins from a Farmer to re-assemble my old Electrician.

I'd say you're right, I certainly noticed the difference when doing my Cadet mod.

Mike, I'm afraid to say I've had absolutely no joy in finding any screws small enough for doing SAK mods.  Really wanted to try for something modular as well but no luck.  :-\

I think that a modular SAK cannot be built without a lot of effort and modification.

If you could drill out the tangs smoothly and precisely, you could probably use commonly available pivots. You would then have to have a set of pivots of the correct width for each and every layer combination you want to use.

That doesn't address the problem of the center backspring pivot...there is not enough material there to drill out.

I had the ideal a long time ago of a Hobo knife type arrangement where the knife could be split in half for use and to attach different tool sets...that will happen as soon as I get a lathe and a mill set up in my living room ::)

Perhaps.   I'm put off by the idea of having a tool that pivots around a set of threads.  My worry is that the threads would give up the ghost very quickly.  If the P&P isn't much it might well be worth playing with though.

I've put a 111mm together on threaded bolts before but that was only as part of an experiment not intending to actually use it like that.

I'm not sure of long term viability but in the short term it should work fine.  Hmmm

That is my first thought too. I discarded that ideal over 15 years ago when I had free access to high-quality Aircraft and Instrument hardware like that.  :P

Maybe I should have put one together then to see how it held up...

What am I missing here? You don't want a SAK with a couple of big frankenstein bolt-heads sticking out the side do you? ??? And what would the bolts thread into? Big frankenstein nuts on the opposite side??
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

Shoulder screws would be better...if you could get them in a usable diameter...and with the correct length shoulder length- Link

What is needed are something like screw posts - Link

Tell me though if you will, what diameter were the original pins?

JS - The question comes up about using screws every so often. My stand is "Stop being a lazy bugger and learn how to rivet with a hammer if you want to do SAK mods"...

3.1mm , they're probably some exact imperial measurement but that kind of crazy talk scares me ;)

Forget how it's held together, what's the tool line-up?  :)

Good job mate I think you are in unknown waters with that one.  :salute:

1/8 inch then. That's good to know (although too damn small to drill and tap like I do the Spirits) :(

I'll throw some potential pin stock in with that package I'm sending you. :)

Hopefully I will find some nice Torx's fastners to replace LM knurled fasteners.

Yeah, the juice looks cool. I didn`t get the sense of elox handles on the juice series anyway. might look nice but scrachtes easier than steel and add to weight and width.
