Very sad news. He was a truly class act who compromised his integrity very little over his career, though I'm sure advertisers would've parked a dump truck load of money at his feet.

Funny thing about the title of this thread is that I remember those "You Are There" (I  think that was the title) programs that Cronkite and his people produced for educational broadcasters. You'll laugh, but more than the Kennedy assassination, Cuban Missile Crisis or other modern news, I'll forever remember Cronkite announcing " Today, the Ides of March 44 B.C. , Julius Caesar has been assassinated..." Weird how the mind works!

A great man indeed. I especially remember his coverage of the Apollo moon landings. I haven't heard him speak in years, yet the distinct cadence of his voice I will never forget.
