All 58mm layer tools
on: July 19, 2009, 08:59:47 AM
I am trying to make a list of all the 58mm layer tools ever produced. I'm not looking at scale tools. I went to SAKWiki and this is what I found:
Cap Lifter/Combo tool both Phillips and Flathead with and without wire stripper
Cuticle Pusher
Divot Repair Tool
Pen Blade
Emergency Blade
Cut & Picker Blade with Scraper
Nail file with SD tip or nail cleaner tip
Scissors
Screwdriver-Ruler
USB Flash Drive

Are there more? Neil mentioned a rare one with a T6 driver. Does anyone have a picture of it? It's amazing that of the tools that I found, the MiniChamp has 8 of the 14. Still, a MiniChamp XLT with all the MiniChamp tools plus the flash drive, divot repair tool, and some other stuff would be awesome. I don't think a 6mm flathead screwdriver would be hard to produce at all. Just take a Screwdriver-Ruler and get rid of the narrowing at the end. Here is a computer generated picture of a MiniChamp with the proposed 6mm flathead. Of course the MiniChamp XLT would have both the Screwdriver-Ruler and the 6mm flathead.

I going to guess you've seen Neil's Mini Max, but it's always worth looking at again.  :D

I can't think of anything you've missed out but I'm no expert on the 58mm range.

I can't belive my idea is so successfull. I was thinking on doing that mod months ago, I talk to Neil about it and he did it.
I almost got all the parts I need for the mod (Flat ScrewDriver without wire stripper is on the way), it just I can't find the time to do it.

The extremly rare part - Torex screwdriver:

(I took the picture from the web but can't remeber from which web-site. Even if I would find one I wouldn't take it apart for the mod)

That previous photo was mine from my Flickr photos account. These are a couple more of the Nokia classic with Torx bit end combo tool. It was made as a specialty model for the Nokia company to give away to their techs and managers. They are fairly rare and hard to find. The Torx bit end fits most Nokia cell phones to take them apart. I forget what size it is. I have only seen 2 in existence on the web, mine and Neil's. Truly a rare bit of genuine Victorinox craftsmanship.   :tu:

I actually had never seen the Mini Max. It looks great. Neil, could you post a picture of it from the side? How thick is it? I have another question. Why isn't there a 58mm awl? It seems easy to make. Just take a double thick piece of steal like the combo tool and sharpen the end.
