Jamie's ToolKit!

Don't know if anyone's seen these before or not, but...  Here is Jamie Hyneman's Kit!

http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/mythbusters-raw-jamies-toolkit-part-2.html
http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/mythbusters-raw-jamies-toolkit-part-3.html
http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/mythbusters-raw-jamies-toolkit-part-4.html
http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/mythbusters-raw-jamies-toolkit-part-5.html

Alas, he never gets to the SOG he's carrying on his belt!   ???

And 2 or 3 things he mentions...  Well, if he just pulls out the multitool...!!!

And, by the way, Jamie seems rather...well, high-strung.....   :D

I gotta say I'm with him on having a personal tool kit.  There was nothing more frustrating than looking for a tool you need and finding that someone has "borrowed" it.  :bnghd: In my last job we had workshop tools, personal tools (that got locked away every night) and a small kit that sat with the manager with some really cheap tools in it.

I really like the fact that all his tool look like he has has them for years, just like anyone else's kit.  It wouldn't have been a big surprise if they had shiny and new, all matching, sets.  BTW I agree that  Knipex side cutters are great, really got the job done better than anything else I've used.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

those are some great videos.... i don't know why but it never dawned on me that myth buster guys would actually have personal tools much less a personal tool kit. there's a lot crambed into that case too.

Yes, nothing more annoying than going for a tool and not having it at hand.

One of my large projects this summer is to clean out the garage that my father packed full of tools. He was a tradesman and a tool nut. Consequently, I have a freaking huge garage full of tools. He often couldn't find the tool he needed, so he would have to buy another one. Eventually, he started to sort his tools somewhat, but when he passed away a little over a year ago, I haven't gotten the courage to start cleaning it (neither could he when he was healthy). I am getting a few friends over to help me later this month, or early next month. I brought one of my friends who is one of the shop teachers, and he couldn’t believe the stuff I had. I had to sort of kick him out; he didn't want to leave. He eventually left when I threatened to enlist him in helping me clean it all up.  >:D :D

So I get to make the garage my own, sort through the monumental stash, and possibly sell or give away any extras and those esoteric tools I know I will never need or use. I am not looking forward to it...but I know exactly how people feel when you’re looking for something, and you know you have it, but you can't find it.

Worse than losing a tool yourself is having someone borrow something and then not have the decency to put it back it, makes me flume

With things like pens some people seem to think its OK to ponce them off others and then keep or lose them on the grounds that 'it's only a pen'. Well if it's only a pen they won't mind getting their bloody own. Another justification is that they'd lend you their stuff- except they wouldn't because they never bother to bring anything with them because they rely on scronging off others.

When working with such idiots you need a big lock to go with your tool kit  >:(

Sorry about the rant - I'm going to lie down in a dark room now.

Great link, HBlaine, thanks :tu:

There's also a whole set of videos where he gives a tour of the M5 building.  Pretty cool, too.  And he's a stickler for keeping stuff straight.  Throws a couple minor fits about stuff not being where it's supposed to be.  I kinda get the idea that maybe, just maybe, people move stuff on him just to do some chain-jerking.  He gets really wound up about it.  (Can't say that I blame him.  And he has a definite point on the safety issues.)

He's a guy who takes his work seriously.  And that's most definitely a good thing.  :tu:

That was kind of scary... he's all shaking nervously while going, "This is my gun, this is my gun! This is like a gun!"

Whenever I get a bit of extra cash I add one or two items to my tool kit. In regards to borrowing tools, three simple words:

NO TOOLS LOANED.

I got a bit anal about it in university when people started losing my tools.  Would never lend anyone anything, but ended up doing all the odd jobs for most of my mates cus I was the only one equipped to do them :D

Did anyone notice he marked his tools with spray paint. When i was a apprentice i worked with large crews that was the only way we could keep track of our tools. Everyone had there own color.

We always used different coloured stripes of electrical tape.  Mine was red and and white.  18 years later and I still have some tools with bits of tape on them.

All my cables are labelled with electrical tape (with clear heat shrink over the top to make it more difficult for someone to rip it off) not got round to labelling tools yet as I don't own that many nor do I take them out with me, but it's on the list of things to do :) I do think Jamie has most of the bases covered but he did seem to be a bit vague about how you actually use some of them, I'm sure he knows what he's doing just not very good at articulating those thoughts :-\

I think he was just trying to talk fast, as they probably had a short time to film the clips.  He did seem a bit rushed.
