e-Bay fees !
on: July 25, 2009, 11:22:59 AM
It's been a while since I have listed on e-Bay, and their fees have increased dramatically in my opinion.

Selling an item for $100 will cost you $4.82, which is not too bad, BUT you are now required to accept PayPal payments which add an additional 3.5% to 4.0% fee.

The net on a $100 sale is now $91.18.  almost 100% increase in fees since you now have to accept PayPal for ALL your listings.

Craigslist is an alternative but there are so many scammers on there it's not worth the hassle of fighting them off.
Why do I carry a 45 ?
Because they don't make a 46 !

Ebay is long gone. I've only sell stuff on various internet forums lately.

Ebay is verboten re any MT or SAKs over here. I only use it to buy bits & pieces for my other collection now, haven't used it to sell anything for ages.

This is the perfect time for a decent competitor to challenge them. They would need some deep pockets to get off the ground, but it could be done.

There are a lot of disgruntled sellers out there looking for a new home.

I've sold maybe 4-5 things on ebay since I joined in 2000.  I onlt buy there now and jzmtl said, I buy/sell/trade my stuff on forums now.

As another hit towards ebay, I've been told there is now a rule in the UK that anything under four pounds (pounds meaning weight, not currency :D ), you cannot charge the buyer shipping.  They are floating that rule in the UK and if it works, it will go global.  It's apprently supposed to raise the number of people buying small items since most of the time shipping costs are what turn people away.

I've been using SpeSmurfpillsed Auctions a bit as they sell anything and everything. Ebay can shove it where the sun don't shine!

The only reason they do that is want to push seller build shipping charge into price so they can charge ebay fee on it, the seller is not going to eat the shipping charge, it has to come from somewhere and ebay knows it.

4 lb of stuff is going to cost $30 to ship, no way that rule is going to fly here.

I really hope that happens. They almost have a  monpoly (in the UK at least) and are now taking the p*ss.

I've been looking at speSmurfpillstauctions for a while but have yet to buy anything from there, if you've found it to be OK I might give it a go :)
