SAKWiki
on: August 04, 2009, 05:04:17 AM
I love this web site. It is my main source for information. The more I dig deeper, the more I learn.

Here is an example. I did not know about Smokey Mountain Knife Works until a member told me about their 125th anniversary exclusives. I went over to SMKW's web site to check up on this. I found another exclusive called the Master Gardner. The 125th stuff didn't interest me much but the Master Gardner did. I ordered one off of eBay. As I was digging deeper into SAKWiki for more knowledge, I found the gallery section. I eventually stumbled upon another SMKW exclusive called a Master Electrician which is no longer listed on SMKW’s website. I quickly searched on eBay, and managed to score this previously unknown to me SAK.

I am content.

Kudos to SAKWiki. :salute:

With you 110%.  SAKWiki, and the Multitool Encyclopedia, have been absolutely invaluable research tools for me.  Great work!   :tu:

I'm glad many people are enjoying SAKwiki, there were times I wondered.  I think it got started pretty slow due to that other semi-smart site having a lot of historical information.  Getting my serious SAK bite a little late I was interested in alot of the current models that were not covered so well on the other site.  Well that ended up in focusing my documenting skills on the Wiki, and I'm happy where its gone.  With more content we're getting a lot more contributors that have some really nice historical pieces and the galleries are such fun to browse.

The downside is ebay sellers, might know a litttle more about what they are selling as well... and the buyers a little more about what they are buying... unfortunately that means higher prices I'm afraid.

Well I've been a little lax myself getting my own photos on the site, I'm pretty picky when it comes to quality. And 10 times more when it's my own.

Although the wiki is better suited to documentary oriented photos, I've seen some really fantastic photos in these threads documentary, art, and fun.

Don't be surprized if I'm sending a PM for the permission to use photos, or clarifications on some postings.

My new avatar for this forum is in the mail as I type, can't wait to get it.

I don't have any of the SAK related publishings. I can't seem to get any locally for some unknown reason. I have found SAKWiki invaluable in getting me up to speed.

What MT Wiki?

I peruse SAKwiki multiple times per week.  It is hugely helpful when contemplating mods.  I actually have it bookmarked on my phone.  How sad is that?

Huge thanks to all those who build and maintain SAKwiki.  It's "da' Bomb"

You don't know how rewarding it is to me to hear that folks are actually using and contributing to both Wikis.  I started them, really, without a clue of what they were about or how to use them!  In fact, I still am pretty shaky when I try to add something, but I do when time allows.  SAKWiki came first, and was a test, and it was pretty successful initially- so much so that we started the Multitool Encyclopedia as well, and I have been very happy to watch them grow as they have, and with as many dedicated and casual contributors as there are.

Unfortunately with this forum, moderating SOSAK, publishing SOSAKOnline, working two jobs, maintaining my small apartment building, running the crap out of my two dogs and working on a hundred other projects all at once, I don't have as much time to contribute to them as I'd like, so I am really glad to see the contributions, big and small, made by others!

Good job guys!

I don't know how you manage all that.  Thank's for thinking about creating the Wikis and keeping them up and running I bet you've had to increase your monthly bandwidth allowance more than the one time I'm aware of.

Thanks for creating goo hang-outs and good information repositories.  :tu: :tu:

Well you know I'm not really sure what it is.  I'll have to wait for an inspection.  I'm pretty sure I will be able to use the scale emblem as a nice avatar though.  I might even have it already but I have other things I have to do before I can relax and open my latest deliveries.  We'll see soon enough though.

I'm really not sure how large the current server account is, but I will say the last time I checked our limits, they were about 60 times what I started with.  I'm pretty certain I've upgraded since then too.  Of course we need even more space for my upcoming projects, both of which are behind schedule, but are coming, I promise!  :D

Oh ya I have the Cow, in fact I have a small herd.   That actually would make a nice avatar, a little less conventional than what I'm thinking of.

OK that's not a bad idea.  First one is up.  "National Ski Patrol".  Taken from this knife that is definetly retired from active duty, never seen a set of blades so used and resharpened that they are half gone.  other issues too... but I got it for the scales.

Nice  :tu:   Do you have any history on it?  From the tang (on mine) and features I'm guessing late sixties but I wondered if these were made in a specific year?

Still think the cow would be classier :P

Based on the information from Urs Wyss / Victorinox the tang stamps match the 1968-1974 time period.  I'm no expert though in dating SAK, I can only reply on this official information. Although there have been errors and/or omissions in the offcial information in the past, I would think the details on this tang is pretty accurate.

Well I don't know if a Cow-Print can be considered classy :D

I think maybe the following might be a better example of Classy, but then why have classy when you can have primitive?
