I like coffee, but coffee doesn't like me.

For some reason coffee is a major downer for me and induces feelings of depression.

I drink a lot of tea as a result.

Nah, I don't really drink the stuff tbh :-\

It's just a bit too bitter most of the time, and I've got an ex wife if I need something bitter :D
LOL!  Good one Mike. But if you add just small pinch of salt to coffee it isn't as bitter.  I know it weird and I have a theory about why, but it's true.
Incidentally, Chocful o Nuts is the best coffee ever!!!

+1 on that couldn't have worded it better myself.

I think I have had maybe 1 and half cups of coffee in my whole life. I don't like it very much.

we drink expresso coffee mostly here, a local brand called Baque (http://www.baque.com/)

in fact, my mother-in-law used to send us packets by post when we were in London too... everyone that tries it that likes coffee has loved it...

I make  my self  a triple espresso with a little steamed water and sugar. I drink two a day in the morning. I use mainly Starbucks beans. The rest of the day i drink tea with honey and lemon.

Coffee is no longer optional for me, it's essential.

It took me years to find my favourite, which turned out to be Illy Espresso which is standard issue in Italy, but for the last couple of years has been easily available in UK supermarkets. It comes in a nice tin too!
I used to come here a lot.

I am a pretty big coffee drinker and at work and when I visit people everyone knows that when they stick the kettle on, Ben would like a coffee. I have always appreciated a decent coffee, but have never really taken note of any particluar types or brands, so I was wondering what all you coffee drinkers would recommend?

Drink maybe a half dozen cups a day.  I like simple, basic coffee - various supermarket brands of ground coffee and several types of instant coffee.

I drink more instant coffee than anything.  Heat a cup of water in the microwave, add a spoon of Folgers, Maxwell House, etc. and it's good to go.

I avoid Starbucks and similar places that serve espressos, lattes, etc. at inflated prices.

When I want coffee, I want just a simple cup of coffee - not some pretentious, overpriced confection.

I also like McD's coffee - one of the few things on the McD menu that I appreciate.

Been thinking about easing my way into the world of coffee. I drink too many carbinated drinks but need my morning caffine. What do yall recommend for a beginning coffee drinker? Think if i kill it a bit with milk/half and half i should be alright.

Just jumping in to say that I do like coffee, but my stomach doesn't, so I prefer to only smell it, and don't drink it...

But I love the smell... :tu:

I prefer a mid-strength coffee made by French press. Usually though I’ll make a dirty old instant instead...

I drink coffee and teas.  I'm not what you'd call a connoisseur.  Lately I've been drinking instant.  I like mine with creamer only.  I've drank loose leaf teas for a long time and still enjoy it very much.  I've got a few bagged ones that I also enjoy.  I was brewing coffee in a French press for a while as well.  We used to have the machines that used pods but have long done away with those.

:P

And now that the thread has been properly revived: I'm a genuine coffee addict. I do not function at all without a few strong coffees or espressos in the morning.
Working from home (like virtually everybody now does) has one benefit: my own coffee is much better than the coffee-like liquid at my clients.

I've been making pour-over coffee for the better part of the last year.  As many of you, the pandemic changed my morning routine - and this was for the better.

In the recent past, I would get coffee at work (often from a machine with coffee pods), or sometimes at a convenience store on the way to work.  On the weekends I would drink instant coffee out of convenience sake, I'd taken a liking..... perhaps a misplaced comfort with a particular brand of instant, with a particular amount...

Before that, I drank this particular instant coffee much of the time for many years.  I'd grown used to it, in just the right amount.  A coffee addict, without the means to be terribly addicted, you might say.

For a few months.... now going back nearly 15 years ago, I was making cowboy coffee in my house.  I had been gifted a packet of gourmet coffee, but the person who gave it to me didn't know that I didn't have a coffee percolator at home.  I was hoping it was going to be a series gift (where you give your kid a video game to a system they don't own, and then several minutes later, you gift them the console system much to their surprise).  No such luck for me.  So that was my opportunity to make cowboy coffee,   I did it.... but I can't say it's something I want to keep doing (or cleaning up after) for any extended period of time.

Flash forward to now.  I quite enjoy making and drinking pour-over coffee.  The type and amount of coffee, the amount of water, and even the rate of the pour all make quite a difference.  Staying within a range that I know I like always gives me a nice cup of coffee, with a slight and welcome variation for the day... much like the differences between two oranges, one sweeter or more tart than the other.

Things that happen with a low caffeine level  :dunno:  :D

Coffee is a bit of an addiction for me too.
Over the years I went from...
pour-over filter holder (by hand), drip-style coffee machine, stove-style espresso maker, pad-machine, instant, french-press to a...
filter holder espresso machine with stream nozzle and a separate coffee grinder.

I love my coffee in the morning, after lunch, in the afternoon....  :D

I wish I could drink that much coffee, but it betrays me.  On a lazy day, I can drink coffee in the late morning, and I've been known to crawl back into bed by 1:00pm.  If I have coffee after about 5:00 pm.  I can forget about sleeping that night.

In the military I would drink just about any type of coffee onboard ship and could drink constantly.  At home it was usually Folgers from a drip maker.

My last duty station, one of the fellow officers was a self-proclaimed coffee snob.  He brought his own coffee and coffee maker onto the ship.  He would often show up at my door with a cup of coffee for me.  I grew to really appreciate nice tasting coffee.

Since, I have experimented with a few different methods, such as pour over and french press.  I have settled into the Aeropress which I really like.  I still use ground coffee, but I think getting a small personal grounder is my next step.
