I never took physics, so please bear w/ me.  ;-)

Does the SOG PowerAssist idea actually add any leverage? Or is it just marketing?

It essentially doubles the force you exert to its handles. It's a simple lever/pulley system.

Yup, same as a pulley system as noth mentioned.

Another good peripheral use for the SOGs are the fact you can use them as spreaders...try that with a Leatherman of Vic and the handles would fold in on you!

The PowerAssist is the SOG model MT that has AO (assisted opening) blades , that is spring deployed blades , were the user initiates the initial opening process & then wacko the springs flick the blades open  8) 8) 8). AO is illegal in a lot of countries , in OZ it is a very gray subject  :( :( :(.

Compound leverage is the gears in the plier mechanism that multiply the plier squeeze  :D :D.

My PowerAssist will hopefully find it's way too me in a couple of weeks  :ahhh :ahhh :gimme: :gimme:
