Should I get this sideclip?
on:
September 01, 2009, 01:12:58 AM
Just did a sweep of a couple local pawnshop when I spotted a sideclip for $25. Condition wise, it's pretty decent. Most of the implements looked like they had normal use, but no twisted screw drivers. The only real damage was to the knife blade that looked like the edge was rolled(I think that's the right term) a bit. The only real problem was that all of the implements except for the knife blade were frozen in place. I just couldn't get them out. Because of that the person at the shop said I could have it for $20, but I'm not sure what to think. I doubt dissasmbling it fo cleaning would be possible since it has 5 star security torx screws. Would this be a good buy in your eyes?

Offer $15 for it; given the work you'd have to do on it, $15 would be fair. *nods*

The security screws are part of the SideClip allure, for me. Easy to take apart and detail clean. There is a seller on EBay that sells the 5 point drivers for about $8.00 USD shipped. Just a thought.....

If it is restorable, sounds like a worthy thing.

Buy it. I'll take it off your hands if you decide you don't want it.

$20 sounds fair. It would be a good restoration project.
Is there visible rust or corrosion holding the inner tools in place? Weird that they won't move..

I'm not sure if it was corrosion or what that was the problem. I assumed it was just gunk from a lot of carrying, but little use. I don't have much use for it beyond it being a collectable which it would be fine for that. I can afford it, but being in college means I might be better off having the cash on hand for something I might need. That and I figured my next multitool purchase would be a Supertool 300. I'll see about getting it because it wasn't a bad find I guess. It sure was a lot better deal than the $25 swisstool I found at another shop. That one had twisted screwdrivers so bad that they wouldn't snap back in place when closing them. A warranty case if I ever saw one.

I`d buy that sucker in a heart beat without batting an eye. You should be able to get it into good working order with out to much effort.
