Wenger Porsche Design knives.
on: September 16, 2009, 12:31:38 AM
Wow. I got this one from Germany today. It came quick enough. Sort of makes me wonder what the hold up is with USA to Canada shipments overall.

Onto the photographs...

The box is a bit smaller than the others. But it comes with a sheath.

Box and contents.

Ah here it is out of its sheath.

The knife comes with a tire gauge of all things. I thought that was interesting. No saw though like the Wenger Pocketgrip.

And the 3 Porsche Design knives that I currently have. I would like to get the cigar cutter model at some later date.

I can't make my mind up about these tools. I'm not sure if I like them or not.

Sometimes, I see a nice bit of modern design, but then at other times they look, well, a bit tacky  :-\

They do look very ergonomic though are they comfortable in the hand Chako?

I used to come here a lot.

They are very ergonomic. Some thought and foresight when into the design of these.

I suspected that might be the case!

I used to come here a lot.

Are those screws instead of pins?  Not that anyone would attempt mods on a pricey tool, but it would be a nice option.

I believe the screws just hold on the scales.  The middle screw, for certain, is in the wrong place to act as a pivot pin. :-\  Nice if it was possible though.  :)

LOL, I've worked on Porsches and you definitely need more than one of those to do just about anything. Torx bits or hex bits would be more appropriate. But those are very nice knives in terms of the styling influence, I just wonder why Wenger of all things collaborated with Porsche. Personally I think a Ferrari edition would seem a hare more prestigious (and get my blood pumping faster), not to mention Ferrari has an image more closely associated with the color red, plus their country touches Switzerland :P Er, so does Germany I suppose :P

They don't feel like painted zinc to me...and I have handled plenty of zinc in my lifetime as a science teacher. I don't buy that explanation for a second.

Painted zinc?  They are supposed to be ruthenium according to Wenger.

I can't see the head technical guy from Wenger admitting it if it wasn't true.

Well, I got the reply from Wenger and here it is: "Regarding our Porsche design Knives, we confirm that the scales are not in ruthenium. The colour of the scales look like ruthenium but they are made of Zinc and coated with titanium colour. Signed Claude Kottelat, Chief Technical Officer."

I never thought they were ruthenium either. It is a rather dangerous material. I figured it was titanium alloy. Oh well, Zinc it is then. My point is that it is a bit of false advertizing on Wenger's part.
