Spears who has one
on: September 19, 2009, 05:57:28 PM
Does anyone else have a spear? What do you use yours for?
I bought mine for boar hunting but so far haven't tried that out.
Maybe we will have a zombie attack and I can try it then.I have
carried it in the woods with me and it makes a good machete.

I also made the mistake of throwing the spear into one of my
archery targets. That target is now ruined,it cut a huge gash into it.

Ohhhh, pretty. I've always been a fan of spears since taking some gong fu stuff, it's quite the weapon.

Unfortunately I can't justify it as I haven't yet had to fight off twelve ninja assassins in a wide circle out in the courtyard. :D
Got those frog legs.

I guess this is primitive weapons day with bows, whips and spears.  I don't have one but always wanted to get an atlatl.  Thought that would be interesting to hunt with.  It has more range and power than a spear by itself.

Can't say I have one, but I do like to make wooden ones while bored by the fire camping... >:D

It would be interesting to know if anyone has hunted successfully with non-traditional primitive weapons especially larger game.  I know I have used a sling on small stuff like rabbit.  The other innovation the atlatl has over a standard spear besides the lever is a break away point that can easily be replaced.  I always thought it would be interesting to hunt dear and elk with.  Contrary to what people were taught in Sunday School about David and Goliath the sling is not a kids toy.  Imagine getting hit with a golf ball size rock traveling a couple hundred miles an hour.  That does look like a nasty spear you have  :gimme:  Of course lets remember the first multitool was a piece of knap sharpened flint.

Remember when you are using this stuff your basic EDC kit.

If Otzi had gotten those flints in the area of a lake in Switzerland would that make them the first SAKs?

This place has some nice atlatl.I will probably make my own some day.
Don't think they are legal for hunting in my state, although I believe
some states have approved them for hunting.
