Costco Boxed Leatherman Charge Sets
on: September 20, 2009, 01:59:36 AM
I bought the first one off of eBay not knowing what it was other then it was a 25th Anniversary Charge AL. In fact, the boxed model was my second charge right after the sterling silver model. I thought the box that included a knife, sheath, and extras were rather nice. At that time, I just assumed that it was a standard Leatherman model.

Roll forward to recent time. I was trying to figure out all the different Charge models, when someone told me that there existed a Charge SLV. After a quick Google, I noted that it came in the same box as the previous 25th Anniversary Charge AL. I also found out that it was a Costco exclusive. Ergo, the first had to be also. A bit more digging online proved that both are indeed Costco exclusives.

Both are basically Charge AL models, one having the 25th Anniversary name plate, the other is coloured gray rather than the traditional black aluminum handles.

The sheaths for both are special from the regular Leatherman fare. Likewise both kits come with a Leatherman knife, albeit a different model. The 25th Anniversary edition comes with a crater C33L knife. The SLV comes with a C303 metal handled knife.

Photo time.

Showing the rather nice metal presentation cases with Plexiglas lids.

The Charge AL 25th Anniversary kit.

The Charge SLV kit.

You can see that both are Charge ALs modified for Costco.

The SLV kit's sheath looks like a sheath that comes with a full sized LM folder

Of all the Leatherman sheaths, I like that one the least. :( It's made well enough, but mine doesn't "fit" the Charge very well.

Other than the two sets Chako has pictured, and the Surge one, I wonder how many other Costco combos were made? ???

...... the other is coloured gray rather than the traditional black aluminum handles.

A bit of trivia - SLV = "Silver", although "silvery grey" seems to be more descriptive!

Costco have had a few special runs like these - including (I think) the Juice SC2 series.

I guess they must shift a hell of a lot of them.
I used to come here a lot.

(Image removed from quote.)

Does the Surge, by chance, actually fit in that sheath?

One more set from Costco:

SKU: 349505
Contents: Original Leatherman Wave + Mini Maglite w/2 AAA Bateries + Nylon Carrynig Case
Year: Late 1990's

This was my first LM multitool, don't have that tool anymore, gave it away to a friend of mine I met in Mexico during a college trip to work in impoverished communities. Was lucky enough to get another from eBay a few months ago for like $30 bucks.

I have an SLV kit. The sheath was a very tight fit at first but seems to have stretched and now fits pretty well :)

I think Alcohol, Tabacco and Firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency.
