File question

Just a quick question . Is it normal on this style of SOG file for the saw teeth only cover half the edge ?

And any reason why this file shouldnt fit the PPP ?

On my Powerlock the saw theet follows the entire file pattern and the file will fit in the PPP

Is yours the one with the flat screwdriver tip end and on the Pocket power plier ?

The file with the round tip is the old design and I think that they where made before SOG started making tools with locking implements and when they started making the Powerlock they changed the design of the file.

Dunc, I've got some PPP's with the flat tipped file, and some with the round tipped file. So they both fit fine.

On the ones with flat-tipped files, the teeth do run further along the edge than yours do.


Are you thinking about swapping files on yours?

Yes it is the flat tip model.

Dunc I went and checked all my SOG MTs. Two P3 one stainless and one BO have files like you pictured above . The rest have teeth the full lenght of the file.

Dunc , looks like you have a bad one there mate.  The edge of the file is basically the metal saw (and a decent one) but the teeth have to run the entire length of the blade.  I'd look into that for an exchange.  Not sure but the first picture you have does show there are slight lines on the smooth part of the edge, maybe the file was mis -stamped or the teeth not properly cut.

Well I've done a successful file transfer and put the rounded tipped file in its place . I also put a flat end Screwdriver bit in each handle aswell .Worked out fine . The only trouble I can see so far is the lanyard ring wont turn without undoing the screw  I'll wait until the morning to give the loctite a chance to go off before I take a closer look .

Personally I like the rounded file much better, feels coarser and therefore would cut/shave metal much better.  Though the flat tipped one doubles as a screwdriver mines don't feel very rough on either side.  The saw portion does cut well on both versions.
