The effin new guy
on: October 17, 2009, 09:58:03 PM
 :multi:

Hi everyone!  A big retroactive thanks to everyone who has posted reviews and information that has helped guide my purchasing decisions.

To date, I've purchased the Leatherman Skeletool and Surge, a Gerber multi tool 800, and a SOG B62.  I wanted to sample the best options from different manufacturers.  Well, to make a long story short, I've EBAY'd the Gerber and SOG.  Leatherman wins hands down.  The SOG "piano lock" stunk.  The Gerber, while being awesome...truly, lost to the Surge simply due to the Surge's bit swapping ability which is conveniently shared with Skeletool.

There you have it.  IMPO:  Leatherman is superior.  But, I give kudos to SOG for it's killer swing-to-open geared mechanism and to Gerber for a CRAZY good metallic finish which seems almost impervious to scratches and scuff marks.

Here's to years of faithful Leatherman multi-tool goodness!

Welcome!  Glad to see you're a user.

I agree with the SOG covers thing. Also agree with the awesome compound leverage.  I prefer the Charge over the Surge mostly due to weight, but hellsya.  Surge is a great tool.
