Squirt S4
on: October 09, 2009, 12:37:40 PM
Hi guys, great forum and thank you for the invite!
I need to pick your brains
I live in the UK and have decided to EDC a Micra as I have 2, 9 month old twins and I don't want them growing up thinking carrying a BUk 110 is the norm.
I love the Micra but it has some play between the 2 handles when it is closed or using the blade, bottle opener etc
I have 2 and the other is the same.
Does the S4 have this same play.I have had one in the past and it had slight blade play so I sold it on
God Bless Leathermans though!
Thanks
Ady

Hello Ady, welcome to the forum. :tu:

I can't speak about the S4 directly but I will say that my P4 has only the tiniest amount of movement, certainly nothing I notice when in use.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

welcome to the MT forum Ady!

I have the P4 and no play in it. AmericanLockpicker (member here) has the S4
(we got them at the same time, they gave them away here, good place ;) )

does the play you have effect the usage of it?

Now what's wrong with the Buck 110 being the norm? (joking sarcasm :P )
don't let them grow up being afraid of knives! and make more laws that
hurt your great country!  ;)
judge others by how they treat those they are allowed to mistreat

My S4 does have some play. Sightly less than the Micra though. Absolutely no affect on the performance.
Welcome Ady.

Welcome to MTO.

I'd be quite proud if my kids thought carrying a 112 is the norm.  :D  They certainly both know that Daddy has a knife on him.

Does it just need tightening? I'm not sure what you mean by "play".

If it just needs an overhaul I can sort it out for you.

I know what he means.  Micra's in general are all a bit wibbly wobbly.  Plenty strong though.

They should be tight when in the closed position though, at least they shouldn't rattle under their own weight - things like that really bug me!

The offer's there if you'd like me to give it a service though Ady - just drop me a PM - I won't charge (or steal it :D)

Btw Ben - you still want that Supertool doing?

Benner hit the nail on the head when he said wibbly wobbly. Thanks for the offer of the service Dave, but it is new and it is a slight design issue where the scissor pivot and the pegs allow slight play.I just wondered if the S4 suffered from this?

Had a play with it now.Seems more flimsy at the blade and nailfile pivots than the Micra and it is too pretty to use.I think I am just attached to the bombproof Micra and will ignore it's slight wobblyness!

I've never had (or heard of) any issue with using the blade/tools for the light duties that they were designed for, so I wouldn't worry on that front.  Plus I rather like the fact that the blades are outside opening myself.  But if you're not getting along with it you can always give it to your wife and tell her that was the plan form the start. ;) :D
