supertool 300 vertical play

hi gang,  i just picked up a supertool 300 and notice that there is a small amount of vertical play in the locking implements.  it is very small and it is the same for each of the different items which leads me to believe that this is the way the tool is designed, just thought i would ask though being that i am not familiar with this locking system. 

is a small amount of play normal or should all of the items lock up rock solid?

That is normal. I have 3 and they all have a very slight bit of vertical play. I can wiggle them a tenth of a mm.
