wengerinox 7 tool
on:

This knife has long blade, short blade,
saw,
can opener the pointe one,
bottle opener with flat screwdriver and
cutter i guess for removeing foil on wine bottles
works for that anyway,
cork screw
leather punch
a loop fob connector put into metal bearing,
the symbol is all metal shild with cross.
I bet my father in law that I could saw a 2x6 in half with my knife, when I did he reniged saying I did not tell him my knife had a saw.
any info on this knife???

Wengerinox was a name they toyed with in and around the 1950's if I recall correctly. Victorinox had changed their name to "Victorinox" to show that they used stainless (inoxydable in French) steel in the construction of their knives and Wenger was attempting to follow suit, but tragically Wengerinox just seemed awkward and was eventually dumped in favor of just "Wenger."
From the description it sounds like the ancestor of the modern Backpacker knife:
http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Backpacker&highlight=backpacker
Whether it was called that at the time or not is a matter of guesswork (at least for me, someone with some egg for my face may be along shortly!) as most of Wenger's records were destroyed in a fire in 1986. I don't believe Wenger was naming models that far back, so my guess would be that it either didn't have a name, or that it may have been something different at the time.
The fob, often called a
shackle
or
bail
by us silly collectors disappeared from Victorinox' lineup in 1961, and we believe from Wenger's shortly afterwards- except of course for the Issue models, which had bails much longer than that.
At any rate, it sounds like a wonderful piece of history that any collector would love to have. If you should ever decide to part with it, please contact me, as I have a think for the old bailers!

That's a good idea.
I would guess your knife dates from the 1950's or maybe the 60's since it has the older style split can opener. Just an educated guess though since there seems to be no Wenger paperwork that is conclusive. There are advertisements in old magazines that help in dating somewhat though.

What in tarnation is that thar gadget?
That is one cool looking SAK.
That looks like the kind of SAK everyone dreams about stumbling across at an antique store where the proprietors don't know what it is.

I have one very similar to that, but in much worse shape. If I recall correctly, it has a broken backspring....
