New Phone
on: May 28, 2007, 07:45:12 PM
I'm looking at new phones now. I can get a free or discounted one through Verizon if I re-up with them. I'm eyeballing a couple of models.

The Verizon Wireless G'zOne Type-V is tempting. Ruggidized, drop and water resistant, blah, blah. Decent sized screen and basic mobile internet stuff (like my current LG VX7000)

The Samsung SCH-u740 is in the running too.

As is the LG enV

I see that Verizon does have a flip phone type PDA phone, the PN 820 Smartphone (Windows Mobile)

The last couple I'd have to pay some out of pocket though.

Dunno what to do for sure. If Verizons data plan was more affordable I'd go for a PDA type for sure but it's $60 a month or so on top of your phone bill and I ain't gonna pay that. I get basic internet with their Mobile Web 2.0 for $5 a month. It's limited but it gets me my Yahoo mail, and news anyway.

From what I understand the Casio is great if you want an indestructible phone that doesn't work so well.

I have a Sanyo 7300 that is pretty touch- probably the toughest phone I've had since my old Star Tac.

Casio? Is that who makes the G'zone one for Verizon Def?

Hmm, online reviews were decent but I just did some cursory reading so far.

Tim   It's made by Casio  I had 2 of them and they both sucked for signal.  The phone itself has great features and all that, but if you want to talk on it don't get it  LOL   I had minw with Verizon as well.

Okay, good to know guys, thanks! My current LG is so-so as far as signals go so I definitely don't want to get any worse.

That sorta sucks, that was kinda my front runner choice, especially since it'd be free!

I really like the looks and the functionality of the Casio phone, and I know they are tough because I've been a fan of G Shock watches for years.  I think another generation or two and they will probably be quite good, but this was their first offering.  Nobody gets it right the first time.

No problem, just figured I'd check  O0

My buddy has the Samsung and likes it. It got okay reviews but most said they preferred the LG enV over the Samsung.

I think I'm gonna have to make a trip to the Verizon store and paw at some more phones.

Pick up a new SAK while you are at the mall... that way if you decide you aren't happy with the phone, at least it won't be a wasted trip! :D

I'm not even sure if there's anywhere to get a SAK at the mall anymore!

Well, I ended up the the LG eNV today. I got it for $50 with a car charger, bluetooth headset, and belt clip holder. That was with my Verizon "New Every 2" deal and an additional kicker from my wife's work discount.

Seems pretty nice. Great keyboard, really nice screen and good features. I'm still playing with it and figuring out what all it'll do.

Do you keep it clipped to your belt, or in a sheath?

(Or will you perhaps use "other" means of carrying it?)  ;)
