Help with a quick gift- Bike Tool?
on: December 15, 2009, 06:05:52 PM
Hi all! I just got entered into an extended family gift exchange with ~$30 price range. I need to get a gift for my sister-in-law and one of the few things I know she's into is biking. Any ideas? Even if you bikers have a non-tool suggestion, I'm all ears! :ahhh

Ok, thanks for the great start guys. So I'm looking at the Hexus (in yellow). She does city riding, and I don't think she's into big repairs (of course I could be wrong). Does this seem like a good option? Since it's a bit below my $30 range, any small ideas for add ons? I was looking at Topeak's tire patch kit... or maybe a mini pump?

That one + plus the Mini pump would pretty much cater for 95% of all roadside repairs easily mate :)

Thanks for all the input guys. :) I was planning to get a Hexus, but while I was out Christmas shopping with the wife, I stopped at a bike shop and saw one of these Wrench force tools. I played with it some and it seems decent quality. The thing I liked best about this (over the Hexus) was that the tire irons seemed beefier, which was about the only complaint I found on reviews of the Hexus. I also like the adjustable wrench... I'd like to see it on some more MTs. :tu: If anyone's interested in a few pics, I could probably make it happen...

Looks good although I have a Topeak toolbar and the irons are slim but strong.

Either would make a great present I reckon :)

Alright, here's some pics... Everything seems of decent build quality, of course I'm not going to give it any hard testing. It comes with a spare part (I think a chain pin?) in the body. My biggest complaint would probably be that only one of the tools (the straight driver / bottle opener) has a positive "stop" when open, the rest flop around a bit too much IMO. It still seems very usable though.

Packaging, for anyone interested. It claims 30 tools, though I haven't figured how they count that yet. :P

Tool & sheath.

Next to a Charge for size.

The tool taken apart. The second piece slides off easily while pushing the red button.

Straight driver, and one of two bottle openers.

The second piece- Chain tool, adjustable wrench, tire iron, spoke wrenches (?), and second bottle opener. I don't know if this is a common wrench design, but it seems like a good one to me.
