For you Maratac aficionados...
on: December 18, 2009, 10:29:48 PM
The guys from County Comm just came out with a AA version or their famous Maratac AAA...

http://www.countycomm.com/AAWORLDSMALLEST.html

I run International Group Buys for their flashlights in CPF http://www.cpfmarketplace.com/mp/showthread.php?t=199773. I'm currently on holiday vacation , but will hopefully resume in January...

Very cool! I have been using a AAA on my keyring for a couple months now and really like it. I am going to have to order a couple of the AA lights next month.

I'm getting one in my next CC haul.  I own two of the smaller AAA lights and they are killer.

A black version of this AA light will probably be released sometime..just like the AAA lights.  A "standard" version came out, now they have black, stainless steel, and some kind of polished steel.  Aluminum does just fine for me...no need to add extra weight for stainless steel IMO.

This may persuade you otherwise about the stainless steel...

I still like my Jetbeam that got stolen  better. I prefer a clicky switch and a bit more output. But I do gotta say for the price that's pretty near unbeatable right there. Kinda tempting. I was looking at their larger "tactical" light a while back too. Anyone know who makes the electronics in those things?

Cuso's the man when it comes to those Maratacs. I got the AAA through his goup buy over at CPF

Recently I switched from Alkaline to Li-ion and I gotta say....

Those Maratac AAA's on 10440's are WEAPONS.

By the way  :pok:

W  h  e  n  is that Maratac AA Group Buy planned for.

I'll just throw this question out there, should someone in the know be able to answer... So, CC advertises the Maratac AAAs as having an XP-E led. However, the accompanying card states it's an XR-E led. This was so for one such flashlight I had bought half a year or so ago, but it is also true for one I got through Sazabi like a month ago. Does anybody know whether this is a typo on their webpage or accompanying card or whether they're still pushing old stock?

Dunno, but I have one arriving in the next few days, so if you tell me what to look for, I'll check mine. It was ordered from them about a week ago.

It's this one I ordered: http://www.countycomm.com/aaapolish.html

Thanks Dave. :tu: There is a card that comes with the flashlight (you can see it on the left of the lights on video). Now, although the webpage mentions a XP-E led, the card says it's a XR-E. I guess they've either bulk-printed those cards and haven't bothered updating them, or they have a stash of older XR-E flashlights they're pushing out before starting selling the XP-E ones.

OK - I'll let you know when it arrives.

Interestingly, he specifically mentions XP-E on the video for the shiny one:

It means it's wrong.  :P  :D  It's an XP-E Q5.  XP-E is the model (much smaller die size than the XR-E).  Q5 is the flux bin, which means that the emitter is spec'd to output 107-114 lumens when driven at 500mA.

Okay - been playing with this all day whilst in a "training session".

I'm liking it a lot. It's very, very shiny and does retina damage. What's not to like?  ???

A great little light that will be seeing plenty of use I predict :tu:

So, how does the Maratec AAA compare to the Fenix LD01?  Seems to be the same LED so same basic output yes?

Is the Maratec waterproof (IPX8 or whatever) like the Fenix?

The finish does look nice...

The wife kidnapped my LD01, when she gets back ill post some beamshots for you... I have a SS LD01 and to me the are both in the same range quality wise... I do prefer the Maratac for the size and knurling.
