How here have served in the military?
on: December 23, 2009, 09:10:15 AM
Just curious how many here have been in the military.

I started my year of conscription in the Royal Norwegian Air Force (RNoAF)  on September 17 2001, after 2 months of both camp it was 2 months of intense medical training and then I was shipped of too northern Norway where I served as a medic, just sitting at the fire station and waiting for plains to crash.
There is no problem that cannot be solved by the use of high explosives.

I was in the US Air Force for 3.5 years (got out early and its a long stroy)  I was a computer geek while in and got a hell of a lot of training.  I miss it, and am looking at getting back in as an Officer.

My heart felt thanks to everyone here who has served their country.  Being in the military is not an easy job...

When I was very young, I did seriously consider joining the Navy, but I think it wa sthe discipline that scared me off in the end. I've never been great at taking orders and was a bit wild in my youth.

I used to come here a lot.

Sadly I never did.  I wanted to, wanted either the Coast Guard or Navy but when the recruiter found out I'd already had a fairly major knee surgery he said that they wouldn't let me.  But I have the highest respect for all men and women who serve worldwide.  Thanks to everyone for their service.

Thank you for your service to our nation during most of the Cold War including times when it nearly became hot war, Vietnam, Iraq part one, and numerous smaller wars.

Unfortunately I didn't meet physical standards for enlistment in the Navy, which was dissapointing because the Army had been ready to draft me a few years earlier.  ;>

To the men and women who serve and have served they have my upmost respect and gratitude

for much of my life I wanted to be a naval aviator BUT:
1. I don't think I could kill (I cried when my dog got a bunny)
2. The long trem career outlook stunk
3. I am too fat

I did not know that. I have always admired the Corps and Marines. I have had the pleasure of meting some grunts from the Corps when they where on a cold weather exercise in Norway and they where a great bunch of guys but they sucked big time when they where in the cold environment.
