Gerber Splice
on: January 31, 2010, 12:52:50 AM
I went to the local gun shop today and saw a new display of Breast Cancer Gerber Splices. I just had to have one, not to mention, a portion of the proceeds go towards research. Way to go Gerber.  :salute:

It came in pink. :D

Breast cancer ever! Sorry, horrible pun...

I wonder about these sometimes. The multitool market seems to be much more of a guy thing... and it's a nice cause... but pink?

Maybe if they associated with another color it would appeal more to its market...

I'm fine with pink though, might have to pick one up. :tu:

I haven't seen pink splices in stores yet.  What about the vise?
This is called a Swiss Army Knife. Do you know what Switzerland is? Switzerland is a place where they don't like to fight, so they get people to do their fighting for them while they ski and eat chocolate. - Larry David

They would make good sewing scissors IMO.

(not being sexist, just an observation from using a shortcut for sewing myself)

That's what my mother-in-law uses her Squirt S4 that I gave her for.  She used to have just the little folding scissors that you get in every emergency sewing kit, but likes the Squirt's extra tools.  If I'd have seen these earlier, I would have got her one of them as she's a cancer survivor herself.

And the pink is definitely a symbolic thing, designating that the product is donating to the Susan G. Komen Fund.  Every SGK-affiliated thing has some pink on it.  Besides that...having a pink Splice would actually probably draw in a few purchases by the ladies (and some socially-conscious men) that wouldn't give it a second look otherwise.

Me...it got me looking at Splices, as I didn't realize they had a serrated blade in them!  So many doo-dads trying to knock my Micra off the keychain...
Half-ass done wholeheartedly!

Although they don't have any proceeds going toward research, Leatherman does make pink Squirts of each model, and Victorinox does have a Breast Cancer Research pink Classic SD. :)
