Duracell Daylite

Hi everyone,

Anyone knows or use those Duracell Daylites? Sounds expensive to me when you compare the price with others in the market.

Thanks for your advice

Hi Andy! Are you going to EDC the light or use it camping or around the home? At 80 lumens its going to be pretty brite. Lifetime guarantee & the AA is only 26.00 on Amazon. Not really bad at all for the spec's. If its an EDC choice here I would suggest an Arc AAA as its the smallest & best in my opinion. Next best EDC is the Fenix E01 both at 10 lumens which is really bright in darkness. For camping & survival situations the Gerber Infinity Ultra is very hard to beat with 60 hours runtime & 8 lumens. Anything you decide on be sure to check the runtimes out. Some LED's only last for an hour or so at 80 lumens or above.

I have the 3 AAA model (bought it at Wal Mart clearence $7.00) use it at work and it is alright.

The focus dial doesn't work as far as I can tell (I don't see any difference).

Agree with Space Cowboy :tu: The Arc will last you a lifetime, gave away two Fenix EO1's great little lights for the $, still have my Gerber Infinity around somewhere it's a very nice light as well.
Welcome to the forum btw

Edit: Leatherman Serac series of flashlights is being discontinued/phased out, be on the look out for one on clearance, my S2 is a great AAA light but I find it lacking a permanent lanyard and/or pocket clip.

While arc aaa is a good quality light, it just can't function like a high output light, plus it's quite expensive for what it is.

Not only that, but the hole for the key ring loop is extremely thin on the outer edge compared to the Fenix E01, though it's thin, too, personally. :/

I read somewhere that Peter Gransee said they have not had a single key ring hole failure reported. It is thinner compared to the Fenix E01 but, you would probebly have to really abuse it to break it. Under normal use I just can't see this happening.

I looked up the Duracel Daylite torches and, while you can get them here, they're a little expensive for what you get IMO.  Looks like the prices over on the other side of the pond are much more reasonable.

Yup, never a reported break.

From ARC FAQ:

Quote
From time to time, we have people ask us if the lanyard hole on the back of the flashlight has too thin of an outer wall. They are worried that it will break or wear through in time. The hole is designed to be that distance from the rear surface and with that thin of a lip for two reasons. One is to provide enough internal room for the rivet and the other is to reduce scratches when installing the split ring. It also reduces the chance the split ring will be bent out of shape during installation.

Lug failure is highly unlikely but possible of course, but we feel that this part is reasonably designed.

Update: An engineering friend did a finite element analysis simulation on the lug and it indicated a max pressure from a split ring type load of 38.5lbs with no failure. Of course, a typical split ring will unravel before that type of load was reached but some people may find this information useful.

There are things I like better about the E01 and things I like better about the ARC.  They're both very durable keychain/backup lights.

It's not really failure from pressure, but wear from rotating on the split ring that's most likely. My L0D has stayed on my keyring for quite sometime and I can see the aluminum has been wearing down already.

One thing I'd like both Arc and Fenix (and other flashlight makers do is take a stainless steel hollow rivet and place it into the keyring slot; that way you'd not have to worry about the keyring wearing through the more-fragile aluminum. :/  I'd pay two dollars (a heck of a profit for such a simple addition of material and weight), if it meant not having to worry about it wearing through. -_-

I think Arc will repair/replace it if it does ever wear through. They have a good track record for keeping customers happy from what I have been reading.

They would, yes, but either they or Fenix would benefit from the stainless steel hollow rivet, despite the slight increase in cost - which could be offset in the cost to the customer - simply from having the number of repairs of lights from that issue dropping to almost zero. :/

That point is well taken. I have not EDC'd anything as long as you have. I usually use an 18" paracord looped around a keyring. This does seem to relieve the problem of wearing out the key ring hole somewhat but, only time will tell for sure.

It's perfectly fine if you don't screw with your lights, since manufacturer will probably replace it. But if you are like me, warranty isn't going to help since most of my lights have been taken apart and upgraded in some way.

Yep, but that's the chance we take...
