wave vs charge

I have a juice and would like to add a second m.t. to my collection. I was leaning heavily toward the charge tti. But, should I spend the extra $50 bucks or so for it or just get a wave for now? The biggest attraction to the tti for me is the S30v blade. But really, if I need a high quality blade I could just add a buck vantage pro to my lineup. What do you guys think? I'm a newbie so educate my

I like the Wave myself but I don't have a TTi  But that $50 dollars is shaved down to a bit less if you consider that the Charge comes with a bit kit and the removable pocket clip and lanyard ring The clip and ring will run you $5 on average and the bit kit although a bit bigger than the 1 that comes with the Charge is around $20 so your only really looking at $25 dollars more if you purchase the extras for the Wave and you end up with a higher end MT Maybe that will help in your decision But you can shop around and get a Wave for considerably less than a Charge so who knows

n8, it's suggestions and advice like the above that is going to potentially make new members like ourselves rather tight- strapped for cash! Just joking, though, DaveK. 

Yes, and seriously, I find myself gravitating towards the Charge Tti, though I still want the Wave.  The reason is rather simple, for the Tti feels like a beefed up version of the Wave. Size and weight differences are almost negligible(at least for me), so if you have the cash, why not the Tti?

Just my few cents worth of thoughts on this though.

Why not go with the Charge AL or ALX.  You getter better steel than the Wave, but cheaper than the TTi.  I prefer the ALX personally, but a lot of people don't like the dual bit drivers, but you do get the cutting hook.

Just remember that both the TTi and the ALX have those darned cap crimping cutouts in the plier head.  The Wave and AL don't.  I'll never understand why those things are there...they seem pretty specialized for such general purpose tools, and detract from the flat area of the heads.

I agree as I have no need for a crimper. I prefer the Wave for its lack of one.

I agree as I have no need for a crimper. I prefer the Wave for its lack of one.

the cap crimpers a nice touch ive used it once but then im in engineering , i went with an alx as i felt the need for two bit drivers, just get what you feel your need for what ever your using it for

I got the Wave first and have naturally progressed to the Charge TTi Should you cut out the middleman? 

I appreciate these things we prize so highly don't come cheap. I would recommend you do some serious shopping around to get a good feel for the prices. There are some online sellers here on MTO; Tim at Felinevet or Rob at eleatherman. You could also post in the tools needed section of the forum. You could be lucky; I was

Get a Wave, that's my two cents worth, its cheap (I just saw one sell on another forum for $40 shipped) and has basically the same tools as the Charge.  I have both, but I bought the Charge first and then got a deal on a Wave shortly thereafter and discovered that the Wave would have done everything I do with the Charge, but I had already been using the Charge so the Wave is sort of my backup to the Charge now.  I like the construction of the Wave better, how the handles are folded out of one piece of stainless rather than construction of the Charge that uses slabs of titanium held to a separate stainless frame.  Probably equally strong, but I like the continuous flow of stainless on the wave, just like the Surge has.  All you give up on the Wave is the crimper, hook on the serrated blade, and S30V steel on the main blade.  420HC is what Buck uses a lot and it's fine from Leatherman too, takes a great edge and works just fine for most tasks.  I guess if you never carry a pocket knife and hate sharpening your blades, then the S30V might be worth it, but that isn't my situation in either case.  I'm actually not a big fan of real hard super steel on EDC blades, it makes them more time consuming to sharpen.  I find fine grained mid range blade steel like the Sandvik stuff used in Kershaws or the Buck Vantage Avid (wonderful knife by the way) are about an ideal balance of hardness and ease of sharpening.  Some people will buy the charge just for the looks, and that's fine too, it all depends what features matter to you.

Ive owned a original wave for 12 years, some might not no that  and this years im retiring it , i did put a post up about what model to go for, the TTi is one of them,but the new wave is a lower cost version , there are so many to consider, im still stuck between a BO st300 and the TTi , but you never know i could end up with the new wave and im sure i will be as happy with that as ive been with my old one, sorry nut much help , but at the end of the day its your call, there all good

yep im going to look at other options at my local camping shop, i did look at the new wave before xmas and they should have the charge TTi in now, there was swisstools there but i didnt look, i will though as interested in seeing how they feel as not sure on there shape, purely a visual thing with me,i do like sogs industrial look, and im BO they look as tough as a tank,

Well, today's my birthday. I got a gift card to home depot so decided to use it to get a wave since home depot here only carries the kick and the wave. I like it a lot!

Now here's an ironic twist. I get home and did a such for leathermans on craigslist and find a brand new surge for $40!!! So I'm going to buy it too
