Anyone EDC A Photon ?
on: February 14, 2010, 08:15:58 PM
I still EDC an original Photon for backup or a loaner light. No way someone is going to borrow my Arc! I hand them my Photon & yes they usually always wind up dropping it. It has come in handy many times & weighs next to nothing.

I have a Photon II on my keychain, which replaced the Fenix E01 that had been on it - my keychain was becoming too unwieldy; I think I need to do a keychain audit again. :/

I have been looking at these, is the any difference between the DX ones and the original ones?  The can't be much you can make wrong with an injection moulded case, battery, and an LED.

I have a couple of microlights for almost 10 years now.  Just change batteries and they are good as new.

I buy bags of imitation Photons ("Fauxtons") from Lighthound and give them away.   I always carry one in my pocket to be used as a give-away and another used as a jacket zipper pull.

I just noticed the price jumped by 40% to 50% since the last time I ordered.   :o

Those from lighthound are nice! One click on & one click off. Appears to be around 10 lumens. They are 2 bucks each now but, worth it IMO. I get a free one with every 20 buck order.

Granted, now I'm debating about returning to my E01; I only have two keys, a Victorinox Rambler, a pair of Bill's Sliver Grippers, and the Photon II on my keychain; granted, also on my Victorinox belt hanger is a cash can and an Inka Pen... I'll give it some thought. ^^;

[Edit:  Yeah, ended up switching out the Photon II for the E01; we'll see how long this stays; at least now my two on-person lights use the same battery type... until that Quark package is ordered. >.>;]

I use to keep a Photon Freedom on my keyring but it kept getting switched on and running the batteries down. Now it stays in a organizer where there is little chance of an accidental engagement. Most of the time I use a ARC-P.
What? Enablers! Are you serrrrious? Where? I dont see any.

I'm not so satisfied with Inova Microlight-I have one and aside from constant switching on, it's not that well built as Photon, I always feel like it's going to fall apart.

I have a Fauxton from DX on the way, and it'll be EDC on my keychain when it arrives. I do want to try out that streamlight nano though. One day, one day...

Is the light from it purple/blue color? as I find that very irritating with my eyes,I had to replace the one in my inova for a led more white light,easily done tho as you just have to trim the leads and push in :cheers:

I have a quite old Photon with an orange LED. Back then the white ones were much too expensive. I carried it as an EDC light for a while, but now it sits in my survival kit.

Waiting for some cheap DX copies, too, for my keyrings, lanyards etc.

Slight purple. Doubt you can really switch it out because its stronger than normal LEDs
