I have a question regarding 80s Soldiers.
on: February 17, 2010, 02:03:49 AM
I just got in today a 1983 Wenger Soldier. I had to compare it to my other 3 80s Victorinox Soldiers. I noticed that my Vic 84 and the Wenger 83 have a K+ inside what looks to be a W in the small flat square just above the hollow rivet. However, my Vic 86 and 87 does not have anything in that flat square space just above the hollow rivet.

My questions are: Is that mark some sort of military purveyor mark, or quality mark? If not, then what is it? Likewise, why isn't it seen in the later 80s? Just curious.

A little Leatherman information.

It was a quality mark, stating the knife met military spec; sometime in the 80s, obviously before '86, the mark was dropped due to the Vic and Wenger Solder/SI lines being of such good quality.  The square on the scales are simply from leftover piles - my 89 SI (in rough shape :(), also has the square leftover. :)

It's called the Waffenkontrol stamp, and it just as Sazabi says. Here's a good write up on it:
