Canadian Tire Tool Sale
on: February 20, 2010, 04:25:23 AM
I dropped into CT today and picked up a neat little ratcheting bit wrench kit for $9.99 (regularly 29.99).

The wrench itself is very small and could easily be pocket-carried. You could even put it on a keychain. Definitely a handy little thing to have.

I also picked up a Stanley Push 'n' Pick multidriver that was on sale. Very similar to the Picquic <sp?> but a little lighter. Actually, I think Picquic makes them for Stanley.

Just thought someone might be interested....

I went to check it out too but the wrench in the kit looks pretty low quality compare to my mastercraft gear wrenches, so I passed. Picked up a stanley too, but I don't think it's made by picquic, since stanley is made in taiwan and the picquic next to it claim made in canada.

Also picked up a pretty neat hex wrench kit at dollarama, $2.

I still think that little MasterCraft ratcheting bit wrench is a good buy, though only at the $9.99 pricepoint. :)

I thought it looked flimsy when it was in the box too and very nearly passed on it. Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised when I actually handled it in my hands.

It's chrome vanadium steel with a 60-tooth ratchet. It's only 3 1/2" long, weighs almost nothing, and and even has a little extension attachment.

Of course, you couldn't beat on it like you would a full-size tool, but I think it would be fine for most light work.

Overall, I think the MC bit wrench is a nice alternative to the Vic ratchet. Definitely seems like a handy compliment to a MT without a bit driver or a SAK.

I think you are right about the Push 'n' Pick. The Stanley clone's quality is much lower than Picquic's - crucially the drivers and shaft aren't nearly as solid.

I saw another Picquic clone somewhere else too. I think it was a CanPro copy of the stubby driver.

I am a really big fan of Picquic. The originals are extremely solid, reliable tools. Unfortunately, the number of retailers stocking them seems to be shrinking lately. I imagine all these clones won't help matters...

Now that I have fiddled with it a bit, I'd definitely recommend the Picquic over the Stanley, especially at the Stanley's full retail price.

That's the one canadian tire carries, with a different handle color. I think I'll return the stanley and wait for the real deal to go on sale, it's not like I need yet another screwdriver.  ::)

One model of the "real deal" is also on sale at CT for $9.99.
