111mm scale/liner bending
on: February 20, 2010, 02:50:50 AM
I couldn't find a thread on this already, but I'm sure the issue must have come up for others.

On my 111mm SAKs (or at least my DAK & OHT, as I rarely carry my Helmsman, and use it with kid leather gloves), the liners on the contoured ends, where there is no tools to support them(holding the knife in your right hand as if you intend to use the main blade, look at the top right and bottom left), tend to bend in. Mine have not bent far enough to affect any usage, but it's still slightly weird and a bit of a shame.

I also find gunk gathers in that area around the main blade hinge more than small SAKs, but that might be due to the DAKs square rather than curved tang.

Yeah, the same thing happened to my Locksmith. Doesn't affect function, so I don't care much. It's a user.

Same here on my OHT, so I decided not to use it to cushion my rear end. It now rides in my front pocket and I haven't had a relapse of bendie-scales

Although not related ( I don't think ) when I first got my Soldier the Saw caught on the edge of the liner when closeing . Its stopped doing it now

I have no idea how to use my camera, they should have free training with these high tech thingies.

What work exactly causes such? if people use the liners(aluminium) as a bottle opener i can see that happening.
The 111mm liner-lock models is tank built....

Those are photos of a DAK (linerlock) and my OHT has similiar bending (though not as bad, since I rarely carry it).

I'm guessing the overhang is just a bit too much, so when leverage is put on it, for whatever reason (I don't use my SAKs as hammers, but I must be doing something with them) they just fold over.

So far the problem is cosmetic, and as long as they don't snap, I don't really mind, but it still quirky, especially when your smaller models never have this problem.
