For a friend...
on: March 02, 2010, 03:56:32 PM
Just got back from work (its 03.00) doing a late shift in ED.  Ran into one of the security guards on the way out.  A nice guy, always pleased with his 2D maglite with LED drop in.  We got talking...

Unfortunately he's just got some bad news and hes got a pretty serious illness.  He should be able to keep working but it means alot of hassle for him.  Budget cuts mean the hospital are now refusing to supply him with a flashlight for his night round through the hospital grounds.  He's being forced to use this tiny LED affair.  Needless to say this annoyed me.

I think I'm going to get the guy a decent flashlight.  He isn't a flashaholic and doesn't know all that much about the batteries etc.  Don't think he'd have much use for multiple modes as well - so something simple.

I was thinking a TK20.  Interested to hear your ideas - something simple with a decent output and sturdy construction.  Any thoughts?

While I was reading it was the TK20 that came to mind.  I know Dunc seems happy with his.

The other thought I had was for one of the Tesco LED's, either the 2C or 2D.  I'm sure someone could send you one over.

If he needs some eneloops and a charger I would be willing to send one over, I would just need some help with the shipping.

I'm not 100% sure but it sounds like they had a charger and some mags which have now been taken away.  I could be wrong with that but regardless he is now using this tiny LED light.  He does numerous rounds of the hospital grounds in the dark so I kind feel he needs something a bit better than that.

I've just put an order in for a TK20 - should get here tomorrow.

Thats damn generous of you mate :tu:.  I've got an unopened Energizer AA charger and batteries here already so I think I'll give him those along with the flashlight.  Cheers for the offer though mate :)

Hopefully he'll like the TK20!

I've no doubt about it.  What colour did you go for?

The only colour they had in stock was grey.  I wanted to get the yellow so it would be easier to see if it got dropped at night time but nevermind.

I gotta find a way of getting it to him anonymously now.  He'll probably guess it was me just from our flashlight conversations though.  Some of the nurses in ED know him very well so I'll give it to them to give to him when he does his rounds.
