i didnt like sogs at first, then i got a job doing a lot of appliance repair. The only thing i think sog has the edge over lm is cutting ability. I acctually cut a piece of 1/4 inch all thread with a power lock. Cut it like butter, no damage to the cutters.

SOG is pretty amazing, if you are going to beat your multi and break parts off regularly, they are the way to go.  I'm not that tough on my stuff so Victorinox or Leatherman works fine for me, and I've sent in a PST to LM and got a nearly new one back for free, so I can't fault them.  They stand behind their stuff, so does SOG, so does Case knives, so does Buck knives, Surefire ect.  Lots of good manufacturers out there and Leatherman is one of the best from my experience.   Maybe they should introduce a somewhat simple, replaceable tool model, like an ST300 but with normal Torx fasteners and an included set of little L shaped torx wrenches so you could quickly replace tools on your own like with a SOG.

While I have no problem with Leatherman's policy, there is a certain irony here.

The main purpose of a multitool is to enable the owner to fix things.  But, owners are discouraged from fixing their Leatherman multitools.   ;)

That's a BURN if I ever heard one

That's great, you can fix almost anything with a Leatherman, but you can't fix a Leatherman!!!

Equally true of Vics.  I can understand where they are comming from , North america is a very lawsuit prone place , especially if the opposition is seen to have deep pockets .
