In Scotland kids do Birthday 'dumps'.  Basically a thump on the back between the shoulders with an open hand, kinda looks like you're trying to help someone that's choking until you realise that there is a queue forming to dole them out.   It's something that only kids do to each other, no adults involved.

We do the bumps, everyone grabs a limb and yanks you up into the air with as much violence as possible, once for every B'day you've had

This tends to stop the older/heavier you get, so Nick's lot probably had to stop when he was 7

Yeah the bumps can be kinda brutal at times.    One year we lobbed some dude up into the air and he knocked down a few ceiling panels.
