Hunters!
on: March 15, 2010, 05:39:21 PM
So I'm getting married next year.  :D. I decided to get my groomsmen multis of course. My best man is getting a Vic   Hunter. Naturally I ordered one for myself too. I can't well give him an untested tool, can I?  :sak:

Nice.

Are you planning on engraving something special on the body and/or blade?
A little Leatherman information.

The rest of the guys may get a Leatherman, or maybe a Spirit.  They're all hunters and fisherman, so some have tools already, and I'm trying to avoid duplication where I can.

They're not going to be engraved, but I doubt they'll forget where they came from.

Got the hunters in last night.   :D
I like the design thus far, the blade has a great SNAP when locking.  It's nice and light.
The combo tool looks a little small, probably since I'm used to that beefy opener on the OHT.  It opens beer just fine though.  I haven't tried it on a can, I'm curious how it works since there's no sharpened edge.
I do wish it had a OH opening blade; it's not a big deal though.

I'll take some pictures after my breakfast of pizza and coffee.

and remember they work backwards like the ones found on most other MT's+Wenger, not forwards like the normal Vic opener.

For me 111mm knives are to big for EDC in my pocket therefore I made a 91mm Hunter.   :D

That is a nice groomsman gift.  I've been a Best Man a couple times and each time was given an appreciation gift.  The only one I still have is a little Case Small Split-Back Whittler.  If memory serves me the couple gave me a couple other things but don't have them anymore.  Tomorrow, March 22nd, my wife and I will be celebrating our 19th Wedding Anniversary.  We've been together for over 21 years.  I hope you have a long and happy marriage.  Congrats.

Here's a couple of photos of the Hunter meeting his new brethren.

I used it quite a bit over the weekend.  It worked well; it's nice and light.  I'm not sold on the combo tool yet.  It opens beers just fine, and I haven't tried it on a can.  I'd probably rather have the beefier OHT style opener; it's nice to have a light prybar.  The slightly angled screwdriver tip kinda irks me too.

The blade is nice, and has that great Vic *SNAP*.  OH opening would be really nice, but I can get over that.

Overall, I like it, I'll take it in the field next fall just so I can try out the gutting blade on a buck (deer not knife).  Now that I think of it, I have to try our the gutting blade on the Wenger 58 as well.  I better get lots of tags. :D
