They can make them like they used to, and much better. The problem is engineered obsolescence.

^^^ This

I'm not so old where I long for the "good ole days" but I do find myself looking back from time to time.  I have a clock radio that I've had for about 20 years, possible more.  I have cast iron thats easily approaching 80 years old.  I have fans going on 20 years as well.

When people say they don't make them like they used to as I've said, its all perspective.  I can agree on some things while others not so much.

How many computers have we all gone thru?  This is an area that irritates me to no end.  I am in no way knowledgeable about computers, I can barely turn mine on.  Seriously tho, this is exactly what IMO jzmtl posted.

As usual, although I glance over 20+ lines posts without reading (unless they're lists, but that's another story...), I always read cbl51's posts, regardless of how long they are.

Guess what...

I never regret it!

:hatsoff:  :salute:

Ahhh, sorry about the longs post, I tend to get carried away with some subjects. Especially the good old days subject.  :-[

Why sorry?! You always manage to offer arguments to "justify" your view on things. Reading your posts makes me feel like sitting on the porch, listening to old friends sharing experiences and learning from it.

Like I said, it's a pleasure to come across one of your posts.

Again, thank you!

Thank you, Gentlemen.
Don't get too serious, just enough will do.

cbl51 made a great point on the subject but I also want to add on to the idea of you get what you pay for. Those toasters etc. that hold up so well were expensive, I've seen people adjusting old advertisements to modern day and whoa!
There's still that option today, you go ahead and spend that kind of money on a professional grade appliance and it will hold up for years and years of home use (and will have plenty of new features to make things easier for you).
