Swisstool X vs. Spirit
on: March 29, 2010, 04:53:41 AM
I want to get myself a Vic MT.  What are the advantages (if any) of the Swisstool X over the Spirit?  It appears the Spirit will do about anything the "X" will and be a little lighter weight.  Other than the ruler and better scissors on the "X" is there any other advantages.

BTW, I think I could put the butter knife to good use, so it doesn't bother me at all.  I always have a "real" knife in my pocket anyway.

Thanks

Personally, I don't even consider weight when buying an MT.  So i don't have any helpful opinions on that :)
They both kinda do the same things, but its rly what style you're into: the X has "sawn off needlenose" pliers and the spirit has regular needlenose.  The shape is considerably different on the 2. etc.

I'd go with the X if you need a workhorse.  Spirit if you need a semi-light edc

The X is a more bulky tool but heavy duty as well. I really like my Spirit because it is SO pocket friendly.
Unless you REALLY need a heavy duty MT I would go with the Spirit on account of its ease of carry, that is just me though.
As a aside I have not seen any pictures of broken Spirits , so I reckon they are tough enough  :D :D :D :D :D

Or you can go with Spirit X and have scissors and a spear point blade as a back up. The butter knife is nice and has its uses, doubles as a rescue blade if need be. Both are great tools, but Spirit being lighter will probably carried more. and welcome.

I own both a Swisstool and two Spirits ( my only plier based Multi's ATM ) . All are excellent , Swisstools are heavy tools , Spirits are midsized tools , very nearly as capable as Swisstools . Spirits are more ergonomic due to the curved handles . Which Spirit you would be happier with depends on what else you carry . I like the "Butterknife" and find it teams up well with an Alox Soldier or pioneer . If you don't carry a SAK , you might be happier with an X . The S model has both a spear point and a serrated blade , works well with a Rambler or Classic on the keys .

You'll not go wrong with either of them mate, but I prefer the Swisstool for the extra robustness :)

I don't have both so I can't compare but I will say I love my Spirit. It packs everything you could need into a small package. The quality is unbelievable too  ;)

I have and like both tools.   But, I use the Spirit far more often than the SwissTool X because the Spirit is easier to carry due to its lighter weight.

I just got the Swisstool X today as a belated B-day gift.  It is sweet!!

I think I've come down with the "MT" bug.
