Wanting to get a SF 6P LED for Self Defense possibly with various modifications.

Hello there! I've been looking for a Self Defense light for some time and think I like the 6P the most. Now Kubatons / Pepper Spray / Tazers, all that stuff isnt allowed here. So that is out of the way. I dont use a light a lot ( I carry around a mini maglite at the moment ) and I dont have any need for it being super bright and up to date, I'd much rather have a light with lower power but with much longer battery time so I dont need to change it very often.
To be honest I dont realy believe in the "blinding a attacker with your light" so I'd rather have that it is nice and sturdy, I believe that in the five seconds where you could blind him with the light and then punch him with it. I'd be more effective to just punch him twice instead.
Sooo. I got a few questions that I hope you can help me with  :)
It should also have known I've never done a flashlight modification but wouldnt mind trying. As long it isnt way too hard.

1. I'd buy the normal 6P LED and not the Defender since I dont want it to say "Defender" on it. And I know there are all the stuff about strike bezels, do you think I should buy this http://www.lighthound.com/Lighthound-Tactical-Head-for-SureFire-and-other-lights--Stainless-Steel-Bezel_p_986.html to put on top. Or just go with a plain bezel?

2. I've looked at this http://www.lighthound.com/ElectronGuru-McClicky-Switch-Upgrade-kit-for-SureFire-z41-tailcap_p_3408.html which seems nice, since I'd like the light to be put on permanently with one hand while holding the light in a hammerfist. When I use my light I prefere to hold it in a hammerfist gripand bend my arm up so its beside my chin / neck and infront of my shoulder. I think it gives me the best overview, and you can quickly go from a non-threatening position with the light into several striking positions:
Make a normal punch straight ahead and use it to reinforce the fist / go with a hammerfist foreward and inwards infront of your head and into the forehead of your attacker / go foreward and sideways to hit his temple / across your chest and foreward while going back against your right side and into temple from the left side / foreward and down against the collarbone from right side or across the chest - left side.
Can anyone recommend the item in the above link? So that I can switch it on permanently while holding it in a hammerfist position.

3. My palm is a bit more than 9cm broad. Is the 6P too short that it sticks out from the bottom of my hand up right above the hexagon-anti-roll thing, and still have a bit sticking out on the top so you can turn on the switch with your thumb without problems? Or should I get the 9P which might even be too long to proberly reach above and onto the button with my thumb?

4. In what way do you think you could quickest deploy it from your waist? with this http://www.surefire.com/V85A-Polymer-Speed-Holster or with a pocket clip? In the case of a pocket clip, can you even get such one? And if you can. It would have to be a reversed one so that the Flashlight's head is in the pocket and it is the end with the button / switch that you pull up at.  Do you alternatively know any other sheats that let you carry the light with the head downwards in the sheat?

5. This isnt realy a neccesarity. But can you get a drop-in or something (I realy dont know alot about flashlights) That let you increase battery life? I dont mind if it weakens the output of the light.

Thanks alot!

Lasse Eskildsen.

I don't have mine anymore so I'll try to answer it from what I remember.

1. I avoid any strike bezel personally, If kubotan isn't allowed you may have a hard time explain the pointy sharp bezel.

2. They are good quality from what I hear, surefire also make a clicky switch for 6P, can't remember the model number right now.

3. You won't have any sticking out on top, but switch is still reachable by thumb relatively easy.

4. You can use a pocket clip from Novatac flashlight, lighthound sells them.

5. Yes you can, there are many, search for malkoff drop in and he has several version with different output available. But if you are going to do this there's no point getting a 6P LED, incan version would do. SF is also changing 6P LED into a permanent mounted innards so you won't be able to swap the drop in, but I don't know if this has happened yet.

Alternatively have you thought about another model/brand that have multiple output and a clicky switch already?

Thanks alot for the replies :) I am indeed very open to recommendations of other flashlights! The 6P is just what I have found myself. I also looked at some fenix flashlights but they had way too many diffrent modes for me. I dont need more than bright / less bright.  :D

I didnt know Surefire made a tailswitch! That seems quite nice, if not somewhat more expensive. It saves quite some hassle with installing the other though. It also seems that it adds a bit of lenght to the flashlight, but that may just be me. Do you think a 9P would fit my hand better, or be too large? :)

I looked at Malkoff's website and there is indeed quite alot of dropins! I, however. Have no clue which ones does what. Could you recommend one?

I also looked at those two flashlights, are any of them any good do you think?

I know they have crenelations but they are quite small. I dont like those over spiky ones either, but I am debating getting one with some small ones, not more than 3mm.

By the way. Do anyone of you know what the term "strobe light or strobe mode" mean?

I don't have a 9P but from the spec it same as LED minimag, which feels quite long in hand.

Fenix (and pretty much any asian brands) has two lines, one is with many modes and another is simple two modes (tk10 I think) which is selected by tighten/loosen the head, and if you leave that alone it's just like a one mode light. Plus it's going to cost you a whole lot less than 6P+drop in+switch.

Strobe is just rapid flashing, from just a few times per second up to 15 or so depends on manufacturer, pretty useless.

Alright, thanks alot :)

And thanks for the answers about the strobe lights, I saw it in the description of several lights. Its the same thing as the stuff they use at the industrial concerts I go to  :salute:
