Yeah that is pretty shocking as well.  :D

See now those I could see being called "awful" and "disgusting".  The RHCP may not be liked by all, but how they can be classified the same as those examples of drivel I have no idea.  :D

RHCP did invent a whole new "sound" with the "blood, Sugar..." album. It still brings back memories..  ;)

While in no way could you call me a RHCP fan I don't think they're awful.  Bland and dull perhaps, but not awful. :)
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

Dunno if my opinion counts, lately I've been addicted to:

http://www.barrenearth.com

btw, the sound quality in that by no means does the album any justice

Anyone remember a Punk band called Crass ?

Dunc

Yup. I still have a number of their singles.

Terrible to listen to - but they had some balls!

Well I regularly drink with Steve Ignorant  :D

You're kidding? Now that is cool

I saw  Youtube interview with Penny Rimbaud a while back where he wasn't kind to Steve. Steve did a sort of comeback gig - which a band like Crass with their agenda shouldn't have done. Personally I watched the Youtube clips of that gig and couldn't believe I still remembered all the words to Bloody Revolutions etc :D

Very cool story that Dunc :)

I'm interested Dave, what would you regard as being decent then?

I posted loads of stuff a couple of pages back on the "Listening to" thread :)

An example:

I think one of the most irritating things about RHCP is that they at one time claimed to influenced by bands like these - what happened there then?

I've got to say I'm with Dave on this one and here's another band high up in my rock'n'roll hall of fame. i was fortunate enough to see them many times

I knew you were a man of taste - I could just tell ;)

I have seen SLF live probably 40 or 50 times. One of the best live shows you will ever see. (I actually posted Suspect Device on the listening thread the other day btw).

I used to come here a lot.

I think awful is a bit harsh, as they've pretty much made a song for everyone :)

You've got ultimate chill out tunes like "Road Trippin"

Easy listening like "Scar Tissue"

To edgy rocky ones like "Suck my Kiss" :)
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

I think RHCP is OK, was at the last concert they played in Norway in 2003 and it didn’t live up to the expectations that I had and it doesn’t help that Anthony Kiedis isn’t that good of a live singer. But I got some albums from them and I listen to them once in a blue moon. But I can think of LOTS of bands that make RHCP look like musical geniuses.
There is no problem that cannot be solved by the use of high explosives.

Great video Dave , thanks I've not seen it before . Steve is a really nice bloke and he's a crew member of my local Lifeboat , in fact he asked me last week if I would go round his in the next couple of weeks to help him with some chart work  :D
Have had many a drunken night staggering out of the pub with him  :drink:  He lives really close to me .

Heres a recent pic of him ..

I'm going to an 18th birthday party with him tomorrow night so will try and get some pics if I remember .

Do you remember Crass?

They were one of the most important bands in the history of music, certainly in this country. Nothing to do with the music, but the politicism, the whole package. You should read up on them.

I didn't agree with any of their politics, but for a band that were banned from just about every media format going, they made a huge impression. No internet back then remember - achieving the notoriety they did took real effort and no little talent.

You should be taught about bands like this in school IMO ;)

It was really, really hard even hearing these bands in 1980 - I can tell you. No way they were going to get played on the radio, the press were frightened to death of them.

Spend some time on Youtube - you'll get the picture.

Oh, if you're easily offended, or don't like criticism of religion, avoid tracks like "Reality Asylum". It's pretty heavy stuff, even 30 years on, there are few bands who would shock as much :)

while I like to keep my mouth shut(wait that ain't true!), I'm gonna throw my 2 cents in.
I. Hate. The. Chili. Peppers.
The guy's voice is so irritating I have to turn the radio station before my ears bleed and I lose control of the wheel as well as my mind. If he would shut his trap and they could be a jam band, then that would be outstanding.  I like their riffs and solos, loathe the vocals.

Didn't they lose their guitarist recently?

Musical opinions are like arseh*les...everyone has one and no 2 are the same. Arguing about a subjective topic like music is pointless. THere are some vids on the music thread that I just shake my head and wonder who could possibly listen to that :sa: ......conversely some people who see some of my vid posts may be thinking the same thing as me (your wrong of course  )

It is pretty dumb to argue something soley based on opinion.  But if we all kept our mouths shut and got along all the time then this world(as well as the forum) would be a pretty boring place. Of course if you want to listen to 10 year olds argue about which band is totally more bitchin' go on youtube and read the comments.....of pretty much any video...
