Can I still be a member of MT.O?
on: April 29, 2010, 01:41:09 AM
I ask this because I don't carry or use my multis nearly as much as I used to.  I still own a few, but no where near what I used to.  If I'm doing lawn work I might carry one, but I find my knife gets much more use.  The same goes for SAKs, I have given or traded away most mine, with the exception of my customs or ones with sentimental value.  I find I don't even post as much as I used to.  I know part of that is I am in a funk that I am trying to get out of, but its hard for me to get excited like I once did.  Has anyone else experienced this?

I've gone through this a few times (Pre-MT.O).  For me, my PST let me down a couple times and I decided dedicated tools were the way to go.  In my case, the funk lasted 18 months before I realized the value of a MT/SAK.There are times where a dedicated tool is the way to go, but I've found a happy balance when to go with a dedicated tool.

What you need is a little project. ;)

That's not anything I've experienced.  I've been carrying a multi of some sort for the last 28 years or so.

What is wrong with you?  :P  J/K--I hope the funk passes soon.

I think we'll still let you be a member, in the hope that you'll come to your senses.  :D

I think what has happened is that I now taking care of Liam full time while Marie is working (for free until September), so we don't go a whole lot of places so I usually just throw a folder in the pocket and go.  I also consider myself more of a user and have found the tools that I like to use and haven't really wanted anything else.  I don't know...just been pretty depressed as of late....I'll get over it.

This needs a poll  :D

I don't post anywhere near as much as others but I tend to read more than type.

I hope you find your feet again Zack and get back to happy times  :salute:

Zack, you need to take a break away from MT.O. Don't log in for a week or so and when you come back you'll feel better, well at least about tools.  :D
Sometimes change is a good thing, other times not so much!

or your not sleeping and arguing with them (like Mike) it doesn't count! :P  :o

I think it's great you found what works for you, whatever that is! :salute:

I know exactly what you mean Zack. I'm not a collector although I tried to be, and have only three multis now and a few SAK's. But there's always the various sub forums if you get hacked off and this place is the friendliest forum I have come across. What I'm trying to say is .. this place is a lot more than just to do with tools   Give it time  :)

Things went stale for me lastyear . I think I had taken the whole Swisstool thing as far as it could go and now I'm concentrating on LMs for a little while .

I went through the same thing. After I joined I think I got to like 200 posts if that, before things in life got.....complicated. I don't think I posted for like a year and only visited a couple times. Like you I am more a user than collector so my SURGE was all I needed. It wasn't until I decided I needed to look into a supplement SAK for the Surge that I came back. Since then I've bought a CT 34, Swisstool Spirit, Swisstool, and now I have a (my second) Powerlock on the way. After I came back my life got even worse, but the people here really helped me out and it helped get me through all that crap. I'm starting to get that collecting bug and I practically live on this site. Even if just to keep up on the goings on in everyone's lives in the break room.

Sometimes it can be a little hard to remember that for the main part this is all just for fun ;)  Sure the information we pass between us on various tools is useful but the collecting is just a hobby and when real life gets tricky there is no shame in not being on, or feeling like being on the forum everyday.

When life is quieter and less complex you may feel more like talking about tools, until then just log in every once in a while so we know you're OK :tu:
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.
