LM kick and fuse tools question
on: May 11, 2010, 02:32:15 PM
Do they use the same tools?  It would seem that it would save leatherman some time/money if they did.  I know the kick won't lock, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it can't have locking blades without the locking mechanism.  I ask because I found a really cheap new kick that I'd like to take apart for my wave mod, and I can't wait until it ships to find out!

Pretty much fuse tools in a wave, been done before, but then also chopping off 2 of the outside tools.

As far as I know, all the tools from the Kick/Fuse/Blast and the internal tools of the New Wave are interchangeable.

Also, tools from the Core will not fit in those four, and vice versa.

From my little experience with playing around with the Kick/Fuse/Blast some tools are the same, some are not.  The screwdrivers and scissors are all interchangeable AFAIK, but the long tools like the blades, saws and files aren't quite a direct swap.  The 'kick' on the tools are larger on the Fuse/Blast then on the Kick (confused yet?  :D)

OK the 'kick' on a blade is this bit highlighted with the red arrow:

What it does is rest on the bottom of the backspring (or multitool handle in this case) and sets how deep the blade will sit into the tool.  As the 'kick' on the Fuse/Blast tools are larger then it means that the end of the blades stick up out of the handles when they're installed on a Kick.  So to make them fit on you have to file them down to size.

Not sure how relevant this is to your mod, but I hope it helps.

Cheers mate.  I just read it back and it still nearly made sense to me. :D

'kick'=bit of tool/blade

Kick=multitool made by Leatherman.

Thanks for the replies.  I did just buy a Core to parts, but it looks like that will stay a core.  I also picked up a Kick/Micra combo for $25 shipped!  So, I'm just taking screwdrivers for it, so it looks like it will fit in the new wave.
