Just bought a lantern and AA batteries at a very low cost. Had it tested  and works great!

The reason I ask is that it looks like a copy of the Coleman Pack-Away Lantern.

It doesn't collapse, Terry. The rubberized body is permanent. From the Coleman link, it really is a copy of the pack-away lantern with some modifications. They copy almost everything!

Here is another version of a cheap 3 x AA lantern. It cost an equivalent of 2.70 USD. The brightness can be adjusted by a variable resistance control knob.
