How many knives is enough???
on: May 27, 2010, 02:01:57 AM
Shamefully stole some quotes from the "All About Pocket Knives" forum.

So what is your NUMBER?

Here are a few quotes that I found insightful and amusing and I am glad to see that I am not the only one that “buys knives I already have.”
______________________________________________________________________

"too many knives, too mini money".

Hell I've got at least twenty five knives willy nilly on the desk in front of me. I've got 'em in the closet, dresser drawers, displays, night table, basement, garage. Then there's the filing cabinets full of paperwork, boxes full of paperwork, a zillion issues of Knife World, American Blade, National Knife Collector, hundreds of tang stamps, yeah I've got a problem!

You will know you have more knives than you can count when you start buying ones you already have.

How Many Knives is Enough???
I'll let you know when I get enough.

I'll know I have enough knives when my Maker decides to call me home.

"Will Rogers Attitude"....... I never met a knife I didn't like.......

Todays knives with condition and craftmanship continue to make me proud of the fact that I am a man, and need a knife at all times. Too many knives??? who ever heard of such a thing!

How many are enough? I was just reading some of the recent posts and it hit me; asking how many are enough on the AAPK forum is like walking into the mental ward of your local hospital and asking a patient for the definition of insane.

I have yet to find "the" knife.
_____________________________________________________________________

Truth be known I was going to stop when I filled up my display case, then once that happened I was going to stop when I got a Tom Mix pocket knife like Father Mokayhee
on  the show M.A.S.H.

I have a Tom Mix (but it isn’t the same one).

Great, do tell, whatch got?  :)

I've got probably around 60 or so knives, or too many depending on who you talk to
but then who wants to hear that or discuss it with said parties right? :td:
I watch the budget but figure the only way I'll stop buying knives is when
my interest moves on to something else or go broke.

not too many but have traded off a few, the st300 is a keeper as a great useful tool,as is the pst i carry, the wave also a favorite, but im starting to really like my swisstool it cost me a pst2 and a MINI but i see them as collecting items as was mint and i like to use tools and find it hard seeing them sitting on a shelf  ;)oh and a micra very handy,  as far as SAK's go ive only had a climber, liked it but sold it, and esquire liked it but traded it, a commander liked it yep traded it, ive a few classics as there very handy little knives, and now have a vic ranger, this has a lot of very handy tools, so if i had to narrow this down to 2, it would be between the st300 v the swisstool, and a micra v the classic,  :D yep no wave,  :-\

I don't understand the question.

Wanna dumb it down a little?

This is what started the thread on AAPK.

I've been collecting pocket knives a little over a year now and have accumulated about 50 knives.
I'd like to buy a few more but I'm on a guilt trip because I have so many now and my funds are running low.
Problem is that I can't seem to stop myself.
Should I feel guilty?
Do I have enough knives?
Should I buy more?
How many knives do you have in your collection?

I'm looking for someone to tell me that they have way more than 50 knives, that I don't have enough knives, that I should buy more, and that I shoudn't feel guilty.

Thanks,

Does that help? ;)

I could sell alot of what I own but a good chunk I would miss dearly. There are lots of tools and knives in my collection that are well used and some that are just admired and kept as shelf queen (yes I have a few). How many knives is too much? In reality, any more than I can carry in a month rotating them out. I have probably 50-60 blades and that does not count tools. There is maybe 10 I rotate around on any given time and sometimes I will swap for something out of that 10 when I am feeling a different. Like my Mantis t-5, it's a strange knife but every now and then I get an itch.  :D

For some weird reason, every time I bump on such a conversation, I think of this line:

Just substitute "eat" with "need" and "meat" with "more knives/tools/..." :D

Knife ownership is governed by the simple formula

N + 1

where N is the number of knives you currently own.

So if you order two at a time you will be able to reach the limit.
