...so...ahem...how much did you spend on your Al Mar multi-tools?   :pok: :pok: :pok:

HEY!! Whoever said "turnabout is fair play" ought to get their butt kicked!   :D

Actually, I was fortunate to get mine some years ago, when they still cost less than a new Leatherman would run today. After seeing that auction price, I'm glad I did!

Checked mine when I got home.  It looks like J-Sews' 4x4--red chop on the blade and pins ground flush on the plier pivot.

The back of my main blade is marked "JAPAN" and my sheath is the black nylon one with the blue pull assist.  No logo on the sheath either.

Is everyone tired of reading about the variations on these Al Mar tools yet?   ;D

The main blade on your 4x4 doesn't say "SEKI JAPAN"?  I think this one is the fake we've been trying to find!!!   ;D

D'oh!  I kinda wondered that.  It's a pretty nicely made fake though.  I'll trade you for the $466 micra.   ;) ;D

Anyone notice that one of the 4x4's in the photos was used?  It's not too obvious in the photo, but the leather is a bit "worn in".  Also, I vaguely remember the guy comparing its use to that fancy new tool from Leatherman, the PST.  I thought these Al Mar multi-tools were all what J-sews calls "shelf queens".  Anyone else actually use their Al Mar multi-tools?

I'll trade you for the $466 micra.   ;) ;D

I haven't used my 4x4 at all.  I've used most of my "non-collectible" multis, which is nearly all of them.  Although actually, my Sportratchet became somewhat collectible when I wasn't looking.

That's only because the SportRatchet is pretty useless!  :P

Hey now!  I used the ratcheting screwdriver once (OK, OK, I admit I had to go out of my way to do it) and also the slide out wrench thingy came in handy when I was moving offices.

If you used the tire tread depth gauge on the Wenger Porsche tool I will be impressed.

Then I guess ya gotta use the ruler on your trusty SAK to measure the thickness of your horse's shoe.

Actually, just googled that.  I'm not sure if you could afford horseshoes either.

Horseshoes are so plentiful here in Ohio that we even throw them at metal stakes anchored in to the ground.  IT is pretty catchy and make make for a cool backyard sport someday. :)

Seems pretty complex...

I have to admit, I was a little concerned about doing a Google search for images related to "corn hole."

Any game called "cornhole" I want to stay as far away from as I can.  You say it was invented in Ohio?  I think I will move soon. :)

It's nice that now, thanks to this thread, that we will come up if anyone searches for "leather man corn hole."

Things may get interesting around here again....

This topic has taken some strange turns.  :o

For those who are interested in the Al Mar 4x4, theres a nice writeup in Knife World Vol. 27, No. 5, May 2001 page 30.  I bought a back issue for $6 shipped.  I just received mine in todays mail.  It's a very good read and well worth the $6 in my opinion.

If you can, I'd appreciate a scan of the 4x4 article and the Victorinox vs Wenger one.

I don't have a problem with sharing it but would Knife World have me locked up for copyright infringement?  ... I won't have access to a scanner until after my shoulder surgery and then I imagine that I'll pretty much be on the sidelines for a long while.
