Standards of Performance for Sellers
on: July 19, 2010, 09:47:39 PM
Ok, here are some standards of performance I think are important and that I try to adhere to as a seller:

1. Always deal HONESTLY and WITH INTEGRITY;
2. COMMUNICATE quickly and completely (unless incapacitated there is no excuse whether out of town or whatever);
3. Make the customer SATISFIED no matter what it takes (refund, exchange, apology, etc.);
4. SHIP PROMPTLY (within 24 hours is my goal) and let customer know if there will be a delay and why;
5. If you screw up (and I do), ADMIT it immediately and make it right!
6. The customer may not always be right but he/she is never wrong!
7. If I am not living up to any of these, let me know and hold me ACCOUNTABLE!

What others can you think of that are important for sellers?

Its a good list Tim.  I'd surmise it by saying, "I will treat my customers in the way I would want to be treated". :)
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I'm not an seller but an buyer and i'm agree with that.
But there has to be an trust both ways to, and that's on forum sales more than on auction sites.
Forum sellers with just a few posts are less trustfull than forum-members with many posts at there name.
And there are forumdealers with there own websites to deal with, like Tim.
I spent many hours at this forum before I get an member here and was surfing at many internetsites to,like ebay and other tool sites.
But in the short time at this forum I did some trades here with paypal and int.shipping and I'm very satisfied how
smooth it goes.
Thanks :salute: Tim, Neil,Ari and other members I dealed with and has to deal with in the future.

Ooh, may I add two, please?  Even though this happened last year... or was it two years ago?  One of the two:  it was back when the "rumours" of the Victorinox 61 model Soldier's retirement was being heard from the source.  To set up the back story, there's an Army/Navy store nearby, and I was visiting it to see if they had any hard-to-find items; talking with the owner, whom, coincidentally, is a major arse to his customers (though that's perhaps part of the problem, it's not entirely).  He was behind the counter when I saw he had an 07 Soldier, to which I replied that they're being retired and replaced with a derivative of the OHT.  His reply was to call me an outright liar and that "Soldiers are the best selling knives Victor-nox makes."  One, almost everyone calls Victorinox as "Victor-nox" here for some inane reason, even most of the supposed "dealers," and two, why the crap would you tell someone who may or may not be interested in some of your merchandise a liar simply because you "think" you know someone who would have told you, distributor or not, especially when the customer may in fact know a bit more on a particular subject - or have additional information - than yourself.

Urg, ok, sorry, I'll stop hi-jacking the thread, but still adding:

8.  Don't call your customers liars; they may very well know more than you do.  And yes, I'm looking at you, Berndt.
9.  If you're going to carry a product, learn how to pronounce the name of the company correctly.
10.  (Saw this two weeks ago)  When rearranging products within cases, if something falls - say, ten or twelve Classics and other items - don't just leave them on the bottom shelf in a pile, it's disorderly and simply shows you don't care about your merchandise nor your store nor your customers which are the lifeline of your business.

*sigh*  [/vent] :D

Oh, and Tim?  You do an excellent job with what you do, so thumbs up to you.  :2tu:  :salute:

Tim you are a brilliant seller no doubt about it.

I got this message from a US Ebay seller , the item in question is a Vic pin which I won for $2.25us

HELLO, MY AUCTION AD STATES THAT I SHIP TO THE US, NOT INTERNATIONALLY. IF YOU STILL WISH TO BUY THIS PIN, I WILL ONLY SHIP WITH INS. & TRACKING, ETC FOR INTERNATIONAL MAIL; THIS IS USUALLY VERY COSTLY, SOMETIMES AS MUCH AS $25.00. DO YOU WISH TO PAY FOR THIS, OR OPT OUT OF BUYING THIS AUCTION. THANKS. DOUBLOONIES.

- doubloonies

Oops did I leave their name in  :D :D.
I sent them a detailed reply & asked for a sensible response  ::) ::) :D. BTW the seller only listed shipping too the US they said nothing about not shipping out of the US. Knob Knob Knob Knob Knobber is how I wanted to address my response  >:(

"Downunder Mod (that sounds dirty, doesn't it?)"

A big attribute for me is number two; communication  :tu:

I think that is why Amazon, Heinnie and some ebay sellers I've dealt with have got it right. They email you through every step of the way.

I really love it when a purchase arrives quickly but it's not the end of world if it will be late provided they keep you up to date with honest communication.

Similiar to Matt's rant I have had poor shipping issues. Many online retailers in mainland UK like to charge a fortune to deliver to N. Ireland  :rant: N. Ireland is part of the UK but seemingly when it suits. I have differences of £3 shipping quotes to 'mainland UK' to a staggering £20 shipping to N. Ireland  :o >:(
When queried the stonewalled reply is that is the price our courier charges  ::) Use a different @&*%ing courier then; don't you want my business??  ::) Royal Mail don't differentiate between mainland UK and N. Ireland. With Royal Mail it is the same to post a package to a town 10 miles away as it is to me :D

Rant over :D

I have had nothing but good experiences buying / trading here. I was nervous about getting stuff from the US, just purely 'cos it's so far away I guess. Now I don't much think about it; it means I'll have to wait a bit longer but usually the price is worth it  :tu:

I have yet to buy from you Tim; I should look at my first purchase to test your standards  ;) :D
