Does this SAK have a name?
on: August 04, 2010, 10:01:16 PM
I recently got a Wenger Classic 07.

And I was wondering if it has a different name that I simply don't know, like "Scientist", "Skipper" and etc'.
Or are those simply Victorinox model names?

Looks like a Spartan ripoff, with a file instead of a second blade

hmmm... Maybe it's a Commander? I get lost when it comes to Wenger models. :ahhh :D

EDIT

It's a Commander, yes: http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Commander. Sportsman is a Victorinox 84mm model.

Wenger Commander...

Now that sounds a lot better than "Classic 07"
Thanks!

Not to say SAKwiki is wrong but I believe the difference between your knife and a Commander is that the Commander doesn't have the toothpick and tweezers.  Have a look at page 17 of this catalogue:  http://www.sosakonline.com/images/stories/Catalogue/Wenger_2008.pdf

Wenger have a listing for the Classic 07 stating 9 implements: http://www.wenger.ch/classic-07-1-007-009-000

and an old listing for the Commander stating 7 implements: http://www.wenger.ch/commander-16939

I'm sorry to say that I'm not actually helping you find an alternative name for your SAK. :-\

Like I say I'm not totally convinced it makes a difference but as I understand it:

T&T= Classic 07
No T&T= Commander

Oh, I was replying to my own post, should've quoted it. :) Anyway, I think Wenger should really start naming their knives better. I mean, how hard can it be? ::)

They do seem to have gotten out of giving them names and just gone for numbering systems; Evo 10, Classic 07, Ranger 78 etc.  Logical enough perhaps, but not quite as interesting. :-\
