What's in your emergency kit?
on: August 09, 2010, 06:07:18 PM
Hiking in the mountains, in the bottom of my rucksack I always carry a small "emergency" kit: bandages, needle-and-thread, a few odds-and-sods, and of course a Swiss knife.  I'm no survivor-man, and my emergencies tend to be modest: broken camping gear, or an unexpected excursion around a landslide.  Of course luck plays a role, and unexpected weather can cause more serious difficulties.

Bearing in mind that weight is a consideration, what's your favourite just-in-case SAK?

If I am out hiking, my new combination is Vic Huntsman and Vic Spirit S.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

Though for kit repairs a Spirit or Swisstool might be a good idea too :)

I don't really carry a PSK, since something like that seems unreasonable to me. If it is in your backpack, and you lose your backpack in a fall or water or small avi, bye bye PSK. So it is usually just a few simple things on my person under my outerlayers. Usually if it is a SAK it is the Camper that an awesome member gave me :D

Anything with a saw and can opener. The farmer is a good choice.   :tu:

The one I'm most likely to take is a Huntsman or Camper (Fieldmaster or Hiker is you prefer the Phillips).
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.
